Question Differential Temperature Gauge?

Has anyone installed a differential sending unit and gauge for their PSD?

My aluminum cover has 1/8" NPT threaded plug for a sending unit but I am unable to locate one.

I am curious what the differential temps are when my PSD is empty and when pulling.

I searched and did not find any gauge manufacturer or cover suppplier that makes an electrical sending unit and gauge specifically for the differential.

I assume a tranny temp sensor and gauge work?

Anybody?

Thanks!

I wouldn't assume a tranny temp gauge to work necessarily. Temp gages have a range and you really want to be in the middle of the gauge at normal temp. Best to get the normal running temp measured with a temperature probe so you know what's normal and then shop for a gauge and sender after that. You might have to make your own hole.

I spoke to Mag-Hytec and they said a tranny gauge would work and that typical differential temps run around 200 degrees.

My aluminum differential cover was tapped for a 1/8 NPT which is normal for an electric sending unit.

You're right, wouldn't take much to do a random check myself on the temps and get the gauge/sending unit to match.

Right now, the tranny sending unit and gauge is the only thing I can find that would work.

I was wondring if there was a unit that was specifically made for the "differential temp".

If your looking for gauges that say "Differential" on them, try a Kenworth dealer. You can even get ones that say "Front Differential" and "Rear Differential". The ranges are marked through 400 degrees, yellow starts at 250 and goes red at 300 degrees.

I was thinking of installing temp gauges on the rear diff. a couple years ago. I decided to buy a Raytech infered heat gun. It won't tell you what temp the diff. while driving but you can use it for many other areas. Like wheel bearing temp on the truck and trailer, trans temp gauge check, oil pan temp and many other areas of interest.

I just installed the differential cover yesterday and plugged the bung for now.
I'm thinking about adding the under dash gauge pod for another set of three gauges. Diff temp, oil pressure, ???
Never enough gauges. lololololol

I have been thinking about one of those, are you happy with it?

I am very happy with the raytech gun. I use it at work to check the equipment if I suspect a problem. The closer you can get the gun the better it reads the temp. Get the type the has a laser aiming point so you know for sure to get the reading of the part you want.
