Summit Racing SUM-771702-NK - Summit Racing® Column Shift Steering
So far I have not found a way to use one of our Ford period correct steering wheels with this column. (1955 Ford C600 which uses the same steering wheel as a typical F series.)I seem to have incorrectly presumed there would be an adapter to put in place of the one the column came with that would allow one like the 1955 Ford would have.
Any ideas?
On a positive note...my previous challenge with setting up the steering has been solved. The issue previously was that positioning of the steering box on this E550 is positioned such that the only good angle to have a steering column in and connect up was a very unappealing 90 degrees to the floor.
A very nice solution proves to be an offset steering adapter called a *SteerClear* made by Wizard Fabrication. I was feeling quite triumphant having installed the rag joint, and u joint to the SteerClear and this new steering column and having it all fit so magically so the column is in the same position as the original was for any 1955 truck
Now I just need to deal with the afore mentioned steering wheel and figuring out how to connect up the transmission (E4OD) shifter linkage to this on the new shinny steering column's on the column shifter lever.
new still wrapped in its shipping protective packaging steering column fits where the original did.
SteerClear offset steering box fixture lines up the stock E550 steering box so the stock 1955 steering column position can work nicely
A support bracket placed under the SteerClear to the frame still needs to be done. But this set up nicely solved the troublesome angle of the dangle.
There are adapters available for three and five-bolt steering wheels. For a 3 x 1.75 in. bolt pattern steering wheel, you could use the Grant GRT-3196. For a 5 x 2.75 in. bolt pattern, you could use a Grant GRT-5196-1.You might find that you'll have to get an aftermarket wheel. Here are the three-bolt steering wheels we have to offer. Here are the five-bolt steering wheels we have.
This might not be exactly what you were looking for but helps for what will work with the column.
