I am thinking about taking out my inline 6 cylinder (out of my 1975 F100) and putting in a 302 out of an 89 Ford. I know that I will need to change the motor mounts, but will I need to change the frame mounts that the motor mounts fit into?
Normally you'd could go to Bronco Graveyard website and see if the frame towers are different between 300 and 302, but their site is down. I do know you transmission's bellhousing is the same as a Windsor's.
The 300 runs great, it just has very low oil pressure. I am going to take the oil pan off to see if the oil pump is stopped up. The engine doesn't smoke or have any knocks. I am just getting a plan together incase I can't get the oil pressure up. I have a 302 that has been rebuilt.
302 should bolt up except for mounts. A 89 302 is a turd anyway and hardly better than the six.
If you are going through all this, you would be better off with a 95-97 351w, bolts exactly the same as the 302 but has more torque, HP, and longevity due to roller cam and lifters.
My vote would be replace with HV oil pump, and ensure PCV is functional. Use 15w-40 or 20w-50 oil should get you many more years or miles.
My Dads with a 240 had low pressure, he bought it used and abused but looked good. I pulled engine, put in new bearings and seals. Never pulled the head just new valve seals. It was on the road for another 20 years with good pressure.
