Odometer rollover??

My buddy and i are arguing over the true km's on my truck..

1986 F250, 5.0l 302 V8...

the odometer reads ~40k km's. Its a Canadian truck. He thinks they roll over at 300k for some reason, and so he thinks its ACTUALLY got 340k km's. I think thats BS... why would they roll over at 300k??

so, does anyone know for certain when these trucks (Canadian!) roll over??

Thanks!

Isn't there 1 more number to the left of "3" that looks to be a 0?
If so I would think the would have to hit 9 along with the other 5 number to "roll over".
If no 0 then the 3 would need to change to 9 with the other 4 numbers to roll over.
Note the numbers on the rollers go to 9 the pushes the number to the left higher..
When they all hit 9's it rolls over to 0 again.

If the mileage (kilometerage?) is as displayed, the truck will show that in other ways. Look at the wear on the brake pedal. At 200k km the corner should be worn near to metal. Is the seat worn out? Is there a big hole in the carpet under the gas pedal? What is the date code on the tires? Are they dry rotted with plenty of tread left?

on the canadian trucks t seems like there is an extra number. We have 7 numbers including the decimal number. Mine says 039xxx.x

my brake pedal is pretty clean, in my opiniomln. The seats look new, TINY little tear. There isnt any wear on the steering wheel or the shifter or the dash *****.. all the usual rub spots dont have much wear. (Note: carpet is out right now)

But anyway we dont know at what km they roll over at? Im pretty certain this doesnt have over 900k km haha feels pretty new to me in there.

Yeah, I kind of agree you have a low mileage truck.

Don't over think this too much. It's simple. Each tumbler in the odometer is 0-9. When it gets to 9, it triggers the digit next to it on the left, and then starts back to zero again. All of them are the same. So when it gets to 999999.9 km or 99999.9 miles, it "rolls over" and starts at all zeros and then starts counting up again.

You think this truck only has 24,300 miles on it? Hmmm......

You only have 5 number places + the 10th where he showed 6 + the 10th.

As Digger pointed out you can use them but as Max showed it dose not always pan out.
My DD has almost 260K miles and the brake pedal pad shows no signs of the miles.
Now the floor mat did have a hole in it at the gas pedal to the point I replaced it with a different one and I think it may be showing signs but it was used when I got it.

My PU and parts truck I dont know the miles on them. Brake & clutch pedals dont show signs of wear.
Could not say that of the clutch linkage
Now the drivers floor mat dose show wear but they were used and dont know the mileage on them?

not over thinking it. Just wondering when they roll over. If each tumbler has 9 digits, then this is either a 40,000 km truck, or someone tampered qith the odometer. Is that what youre suggesting?

Lots of parts on it have very little wear, like hardly any, and dont seem to have been replaced.

i bought it from a young guy who bought it from the widow of ghe original owner. It was his sunday driver, his "going to the cottage" truck. I think he pulled a little trailer on it. I highly doubt the young fella tampered with the odometer (if thats possible?), but even if he did.. why would he change it to such a hard-to-believe number like 40k??

I really dont care, im just curious.. it runs like a champ and looks dang good. but my guess is that its a very low km truck.

but i guess your "hmmm" implys you think someone tampered with the odometer? Hmmm, indeed.

Based on what you said of the old guy not really driving it and the kid, did not say how long he had it and why he sold it, and the pictures I would say it is a low KM truck.

Your truck has either 39,108 klicks or 1,039,108 or 2,039108 and so on. Barring any tampering of course.

if it had more than 39xxxx the far left number would not be a zero in my book..

Yours shows signs of being a low-mileage truck.

Is what it is in terms of trying to figure out true mileage on older vehicles with multiple previous owners, particularly US-spec with 5-digit odometers. My '85 showed 15K on it when I bought it, had obviously rolled over at least once, and I've put 10K on it since then. VIN registration history showed one mileage record in the early '90s with ~50K on it. Brake pedal pad was missing when I bought it 2 years ago. Seats (velour captain's chairs) are in excellent condition, normal wear, but not anywhere approaching threadbare, carpet looks like new, "touch" surfaces in the interior all show relatively minimal wear. From the overall general wear/condition of the truck, my gut says it only has 125K on it as opposed to 225K or 325K, but were I to sell it I'd never advertise it as having 125K original miles because I can't prove it.

I've rolled over odometers multiple times. When they roll over from 999999.9 to 000000.0 all the numbers to the left of the reset miles or klicks are zeros. The Canadian trucks have one more digit is the only difference.
