I am in the process of building a F-350 truck online and ordering it this coming week. When I build the Lariat and add all the options the price comes to a little over $80,000. When I build the same Platinum truck the price comes to around $83,000. What would be the reason to go with the Platinum over the Lariat. Just curious. I have a 2017 F-350 Lariat now which I'm trading in.
Without going to the build and price or the order guide two features come to mind that separate the two, massaging seats and built-in navigation...oh, and the Platinum leather is probably better than the little bit that's in the Lariat. There might be additional resale value with a Platinum trim.
1. Resell value. A Platinum will command a higher resell value just based on the fact that it's considered a high trim level even though option wise a Platinum and a fully loaded Lariat will be similar.
2. Platinum gets massaging seats.
3. Tailgate applique. A Platinum gets you that shiny "chrome" piece on your tailgate if that's something you care for.
1) The Lariat doesn’t require the moonroof.
2) The SRW Lariat is available with 18” wheels and tires; the Platinum is only available with 20” wheels and tires.
3) The Lariat is now the highest trim level available with the optional camper package (rear stabilizer bar, stiffer front springs on the F-350 SRW)
4) The Lariat is available in 4x2; the Platinum isn’t.
Depends on your wants / needs / desires.

Reason: Strike out moonroof error
Just to clarify on the sunroof. On the platinum it is not standard. the sunroof is an option in a platinum. You can get a platinum without it just like the lariat. On the KR it is in a package and on the limited it is standard.
I went lariat ultimate, 2 main reasons, I can get the black appearance package, and I’m not stuck with the hideous tailgate. I can take it Or leave it on the massage seats. My lariat ultimate loaded still came in 4K less than a platinum. I have every option you can *** except adaptive steering and adaptive cruise(I’ll probably add adaptive cruise later)
I like the sport/black headlights/grille etc so I went with a lariat.
I didn’t think massaging seats were important (even though I have admittedly never sat in them). They might be amazing but I went without.
I think they’re both nice and a platinums a crazy awesome truck but I didn’t prefer the silver trim and all that as much as the lariat with black appearance option is what it came down to.
The built-in nav and other standard features (plus resale) would push me over the edge with a Platinum over the Lariat, but the best difference on the B&P I can get with as similar features as I can pick is about $5,580 MSRP.

google maps or Waze (thru CarPlay) is what I’ve always used over factory nav. Most people I know do the same. I also prefer a black interior (can that be had on platinum?)
IMO I think it mostly comes down to which one you think looks best as they look different on the exterior….it is where the biggest differences are to be honest. And they’re both the best looking trucks on the road.

agreed! and yes platinum interior can be marsella or black. As mentioned before you can order platinum without sunroof. I wish they made blackout package option on platinum with tailgate plaque deleted or blacked out. I had Marsella in my '20 F-150 and it was beautiful classy looking interior, I miss it a little compared to the monotone black, I also deleted the pano roof on that truck and saved $1500. Although, since tinting the sunroof with 5% on the F-250, I've been able to leave the shade open and have come to really like the roof (until it breaks).
I ordered my 2022 Platinum without the sunroof, but preferred the two tone interior and higher quality seats. I was never a sunroof person, but my preference was confirmed last year while camping outside of Lincoln, Nebraska. A big hail storm came through the day before and every RV that was in the park was damaged. The pickup next to us had a sunroof that was destroyed and they were trying to figure out how to get back home by trying to seal it up. It was a mess (his Airstream had $25K damage....). Probably rare but just confirmed why I didn't want/need the sunroof.
I ordered the Platinum. Seats, tech et cetera is the main reason. The one thing I don't like about the Platinum which I wish was an option to delete is the chrome tramp stamp on the tail gate. I'm fairly certain I'll get it blacked out when I receive the truck...it's shipped so I'll have it in two or three weeks. More than likely I'll also have the grill and side badges blacked also if it doesn't cost me thousands.
