That tells me it does not have the rear sump oil pan setup for the trucks. So start looking for all that to convert it over. This place has all that if you want to pay for it. https://www.landlproducts.com/ Or a junkyard may have a 460 sitting around out of a truck.

So you put a front sump i a truck? if it possible i would prefer to not buy a oil pan. Also i started the motor yesterday and it runs great

I strongly recommend you not use a front sump pan. How will you change the oil? Some people have used a double sump mustang pan, and it fits without modifying the mounting the engine, but they can't get to the front drain plug to get all the oil out.

I did. My project was similar to yours in that I wanted to spend as close to zero dollars as possible while doing the swap. I ended up chopping up the stock 351w perches I had and mounting them further up to clear the front sump pan. I have about 2k miles on the swap and I think if I could go back I'd have sprung for a rear sump. Which I believe is a fair bit pricier than a rear sump for a 460. Edit: I used the stock transmission mount to site the motor in the bay and ended up using a ~1" spacer under the transmission mount to lift the back of the trans trading some motor angle for driveline angle.

Pros:
  • Didn't have to buy rear sump pan

Cons:
  • Changing the oil is a tight job because the drain plug has enough clearance to get out but then the oil is draining directly on the crossmember. Tho you could use a fumoto valve and a hose setup to make it not messy.
  • You may have to fab up a custom fan shroud
  • I spent a lot of time treading the line of oil pan clearing the crossmember & not tilting the motor so much that is suffers from: oil starvation in the front cylinders (similar to what happens to a 300), the carb just leaking in to the manifold, driveline angle being too much.

So it worked out for me with a different motor but if the overall front depth(?) of your motor forces you to lift it higher it could be a disaster.

To sum up: Would not recommend but understand wanting to not buy a new sump setup. I personally may redo the sump and mount on my swap.
