Ibuzzard, that diode, you can still have high, low, or both?
If you leave the diode installed, when you activate the dimmer for high beams, both high and low beams are on simultaneously. Then, when you dim the foot switch , you have only low beams. Remove the diode, lights act as normal. But there is no provision to have high, low, or both. Also, I am always concerned about heat build-up when using both beams at the same time, so I use stock wattage lamps in my Hella E-Code housings, which are pricey.
For those that don't know what a diode is: It is a check valve for electricity, it allows current to flow in one direction and not the other. So when you hook up the high beam to the low beam circuit with a diode the low beam will operate normally, when the high beam is activated the low beam will also be on.
