I personally think FORD takes a beating better than any other brand. I prefer the looks of most of the Chrysler & some of the GM vehicles. All of the GM vehicles that I owned died prematurely IMHO, but the FORDS just keep on going. I would love nothing more than a '69 Firebird or a Duster with all FORD running gear. Just my .02 worth.

You're close, the real cid is 346. They kept the 350 cid in all the lit so not to con-fuse the public.
I'm a Ford guy for several reasons. First of all, like many others, I come from a family that loves Fords. Secondly, I've always thought that from the very first day of auto manufacturing Ford has been the leader, and that Cheverolet was a cheaper imitation. Another reason is the racing history, Ford and Dodge dominated the old days. Dirt tracks, NASCAR, LeMans, you name it and Ford was right there at the top, that is, before so many rules were imposed to keep vehicles "equal", what is the deal with that? I'll tell you, its all about the money, who's going to come see a race when you know who's going to win. People just don't seem to remember how far behind Cheverolet always was. Now I'll move on to trucks, its been my experience that you just can't beat a Ford truck. Motor for motor they have more low end torque, they have bigger and stronger axles and running gear in general, and they are just down right dependable. Oh, one more reason I'm a Ford guy, nobody has ever produced a motor that could compare to the good old 427!!

ROTF Those are some good ones. I didn't know about that thread. I especially like the one ... "Ford in a Ford, Dodge in a Dodge, Chevy in a junkyard." Maybe if the Shivvy boys wouldn't *******ize Ford trucks, we'd have a little more respect for them. But this is a Ford site. You don't expect we should praise the competition?
INLINE SIX POWER!
300 Cubic Inches of Low RPM Truck Torque! And twin-I-beams too!
"Drive a stick young man! There'll be time for automatics when you're old and unable."
You know, Michelle on Saturday while we were driving around the city looking for special things.About 5:00 pm, she says right out of the blue;" I have been looking on the road seeing what trucks are doinf what and it seems that the GMC's & Chevrolet Trucks are run down and falling apart and being driven by scruffy looking people.
The Dodge's are nice but, they are all new.
It seems that it's MOST (meaning practically all)Fords,Old and New are Working. The old ones have campers, garbage(hauling),Lanscaping equipment, etc.
The new Fords all have Business signs on them & have equipment in the back,& The Classic Ford trucks, are out having some fun."
It was just after that, an A.M.A. Tow Truck F-350 PS went by us towing a New Dodge P/U.

In Georgia, I see TONS of 1985-1996 F150's....I even see abunch of 87's , same year as mine....
When I went looking for a pickup truck 7 years ago, I originally wanted a Chevy, cause I had owned several chevies and knew what to expect from them. This deal on this 87 fell into my lap - Original owner, 69000 miles, perfect condition - and I could not pass it up. GMC/Chevy prodcuts were not in near the shape that this one was, and i had seen several of these on the highway already.
Its my first Ford, but it will not be my last...:-)
There are only a few types of cars that I absolutely despise. Japanese cars and some import (I like BMW's and Jags obviously). I am a HUGE Pontiac fan. First and foremost I love Pontiac to death. But Ford is a really close second. I like older Mopars but not much of the newer ones because most are powered by Japanese motors. I don't particularly like Chevy trucks. Mostly because of their IFS and I think some of them are just ugly. But yeah. The reason I don't like Japanese cars are because I think they're incredibly ugly. They sound like CRAP. They're slow. They're all little 4-bangers. I just can't stand them. I have respect for Subaru though. Their AWD system is awesome. I don't mind Mazda as much since they're owned by Ford but I'm not sure I'd ever drive one.
I use to work at a Chevy dealer in the mid 80s and have seen first hand Chevy quality by owning a Citation and brand new 81 Camaro (which was returned to Chevy).
To own an 80s/90s Chevy car is to almost guarantee an EPROM replacement at the side of the road. At least a Ford TFI module is only $30.00
If I found the right older Chevy truck (especially Blazer) I would not mind owning it or an older Corvette. I do not mind Chevy trucks, just the people that run the corporation. I have more in common with off-road 4x4 Chevy owners than with Bill Clinton and Al Gore.
I inherited a 1982 Chevy Citation (notoriously bad year and car) but this was a good 'un. With a trunk, not those ugly hatchbacks. Had a V6 w/ overdrive and I got incredible gas mileage for some reason.
I just like old trucks. I'd love to have a Cameo or other 50's truck, I like the styling and simplicity. I'd take an old Dodge Power wagon too. I had a 3/4 ton Scottsdale that was pretty stout, if ugly. Chevies have the advantage of long years of parts commonality, so parts are cheap and plentiful. When I couldn't pass up a sweet looking 64 F100, I learned all about more expensive, hard to find parts.
What I want to know, what the hell happened to the steel in later years. Seems like all the cars and trucks just rust away whether import or domestic, from the inside out. I like American stuff, just because, I feel a connection to the men who designed and made it, I don't expect anyone to understand. If that means I gotta buy 40 year old trucks, so be it. They made lots.
There aren't too many GM products that I'd buy. Certainly not new. Can't think of one! I like the late '60s early '70s C-10 pickups but that's about it for trucks. I wouldn't mind having a '68 Camaro RS/SS with a big 396 and a '67 'Vette with a 427, and that's about it for the cars. I owned a '91 Firebird with the 3.1 v6 and I can't say a bad thing about it. The worse thing Pontiac ever did was sold out to GM. When they were making their own engines they were awesome. 455's and 400's. I don't think it's that we all hate chevy's, it's just that as long as there is a Ford that's out there for sale, that's what we'll buy.
In twenty-seven years of driving on the road, I've owned half-a-dozen Mopars, two Chevys, and at least thirty Fords. All the Mopars ran good, but couldn't take a beating well. All but one left me walking at least once. Both Chevys broke down several times, and left me hating GM with a passion (also owned a 67 GTO that left me walking). I've had Fords cause me to walk by getting stuck, which is an operator malfunction. I also blew the rear end out on my built 65 F100.It happened while slamming second gear at over 6000 RPM's while racing a 69 Z28. I was winning until that happened. What I'm trying to say, is I LOVE my Fords, because they treat me good.
My first Ford was a 1978 Thunderbird Dimond Jubbile Ed. Rust free southern Calif car (I live in Chicago). I fell in love with the thing when I layed my eyes on it. 400 CID, 8-track, long hood, it was just a totaly neat car. I got it in 1995 when I got my drivers license. It took all my beating from HS driving, never let me down. Ever since, I have been hooked on Ford cars and trucks. I have had a few, 1976 LTD 400 CID, 1979 LTD 302 CID, 1983 LTD Crown Vic wagon 302 CID, 1975 Lincoln Mark 4 460 CID, 2 1979 Lincoln Town Cars both 400 CIDs, and now my 1991 F-250 XLT Lariet. I have also have and had a few pre 1986 Volvo 240 series wagons and 4 doors. My current Volvo is a 1983 wagon with 167K and the last was a 1979 wagon with 299K.
Yea I know, there ugly, but there not from Japan and they do there job. This is also how I became a Volvo mechanic, my Volvo also have never let me down. I get made fun of for owning a Volvo and thats fine. But I ask "When you move crap from your house, do you use a beach ball or a box?" Thats when they go silent. Most of my friends own Chevys and Im fine with that. I just dont like how they look and how they are made (post 1976). But I dont "HATE" them, they just dont appeal to me. I also think Ford has listened to there customers better than GM. I like rear wheel drive, it just feels better. GM has only the Caddy Cateria/CTS, Corvette, and there truck line. Ford has the Crown Vic/Marquis, Mustang, Thunderbird, Merc Marouter (I know I spelled that wrong), Lincoln Town Car and the truck line. I have never gotten stuck in the snow in my rear wheel drive cars and as you read, I have had a few already. So Ford cars and trucks have been there for me all the time, so I will keep with something that works for me.
