does anybody have any experience with remote start kits for 67-72 trucks?..all im wondering is if it will work because i have the manual choke..think it could be a problem?..thanks for all input in advance
Iv'e seen it done.
A friend of mine had a 72 f150 we installed one on , it was an automatic with a fresh rebuilt 390, it would start on the first try.
Conditions: The truck will need to be able to start on the first or second try, having an automatic choke helps, but is not necessary if the truck starts right up, automatic makes it alot easier, but i have seen it done with standard transmissions also. There are a couple of sensors that you attach, one on the gear shifter and another to the body of the truck or transmission and one to the parking brake. The one on the transmission shifter tells the remote start unit that the truck is in neutral (needs to be in neutral and the parking brake needs to be applied) if the two sensors are not lined up the remote start will not start due to obvious saftey reasons. It is possible and its really not that hard.
he he, my truck starts first time every time (well, when its REALLY cold, maybe it takes 2). I think the pertronix and hotter coil help, as do a proper tune and idle settings a bit on the rich side. Those remote starters are pretty trick! The wiring will be easy on these old trucks- no computers and all to hook up. Just one to the coil, and the starter relay. Simplicity is great.
ya i thought it would be really cool to put on my truck for xmas..and i get a great discount so it would be pretty cheap..
well lol my doesnt always start on the first try..but most of the time..ill just have to try it and see what happens..but its nice to know that someone has done it before and has had experience with it..thanks all for your opinions
