‘22 upfitter switches

I know this has been asked many times but I’m struggling. I am finding two bundles of wires. One matches other photos I’ve seen on here (under the hood) and the other looks like others posted, but the label is different. Can someone give me step by step what I need to tap and where to add some rear lights that are switched? I’ve done a lot of auxiliary wiring for lights on jeeps but never used upfitter switches so I’m a bit lost.

That second picture is the customer access bundle. You won't be using that unless you want to setup the high idle. The pass though wires (four), if that's what you are looking for, are behind that same kick panel but farther forward towards the firewall, and possibly tucked up high.

The first picture shows the engine bay side of the pass though wires (four). Then you also will have to locate the actual upfitter switch wires (six). Depending on what you are trying to do, you might not need to use the pass through wires.

Now I found this one under the hood too, with the label I expected:

so do I just hit the wire for the switch I want and run hot to the rear of the vehicle?

Yep, that should do it, those are your hots. Only 2 can be switched to full time hot, so if that's something you want you'll have to use #5 or #6.

Looks like they have increased the length of the pass through wires! If so, thank you Ford!

that first bundle of 4 wires. What do they do?

also, if all I’m planning to do is exterior lighting, I don’t need to bother with finding the same bundle inside, correct?

The inside end of the pass through wires is where the problem usually is, he doesn't have a picture of that end.

That first bundle of 4 are just pass though wires, the other end would be stubbed out on the inside. They do nothing more than allow you to get from in the cab to the engine bay. If you are just wanting to use the upfitter switches to power exterior lights than there is no need to use the pass through wires.

perfect that’s what I thought! So the pass through wires are only really needed if you have to go back and both between the cab and bay off of a single switch (or other item not connected to the switch). They just fished a wire for you basically if you need it? Accessories that have all wiring either inside or outside just use the upfitter bundle. Is that thinking correct?

I can not for the life of me find the interior end of the pass through wires. I have looked everywhere inside that kick panel that my 65 year old body will allow.

Anybody got a picture of where those wires are? (The high idle wires are obvious, I have found them)

I have a picture where 3 of the 4 can be seen, but it's from my 2019. I think they might be even shorter on the newer trucks. Sometimes they fold, tuck or even tape them to other wires.

i can’t find the interior pass through or the interior upfitter bundle. Guess it’s a good thing I don’t need them or I’d be stuck!

well that would certainly explain why I couldn’t find it lol. And now the pass through wires make much more sense!

on 2021 if your using the overhead switch to operate an item OUTSIDE the vehicle, you do not need to use the pass thru wires. just use the big bundle that has the labled wires.

the pass through wires are so you can use the under hood uppfitter wires to connect to the pass through wires for items you may want to power via the uppfitter switches. the book is vague and should detail this better imo, or use pass through wires for other items you need to run a signal through the firewall without poking holes in grommets or the like
