330 FE Headers?

I am wanting to replace the stock manifold on my 1974 F500. It has a 330 FE motor paired to a 435 new era Trans. I am not sure what engine family I should be shopping. My concern is clearing the clutch linkage, I want to say long tubes will fit but I am not certain. Curios to hear what has worked for other people! Thanks!

You have an FT engine, not an FE.

FT heads have a crossover in the center that will have to be plugged to use headers.

The two center bolts are for the crossover:

It looks like the bolts would otherwise match up.

Try to find headers for a '74 pickup with a manual trans and a 360-390.

If you are just trying an inexpensive way to replace manifolds, I think manifolds would be cheaper all things considered.

If you are trying to turn the 330 into a powerhouse, you will need to do a lot more work. Topping out at 4000 RPM the 330 isn't going to get much out of headers.

Headers only improve performance in the high rpm range, they do nothing for engines designed for low rpm torque. If you want more bolt in grunt, a healthy 391 (cataloged as a 389 in these years ) with 4 BBL and dual exhaust will do the trick.

Thanks for the quick response! I know the 330 will not be performance motor by any means, I was mostly after getting a better sound out of it. I have a exhaust leak coming from the manifold since they were coming off I thought I might as well throw some headers on there. I will most likely check my options and depending on price and condition of the stock manifolds just put the stock option back on. I Appreciate the speedy response! Thanks

As OEM, Ford did not use gaskets for the exhaust manifolds. Once you pull the manifolds, check the head mating surface for erosion. Then check the manifold surfaces to see if they are flat or warped. Check the head surfaces for that too.

You may be able to have the manifolds machined true. Reinstalled with the new fasteners they shouldn't leak unless the heads are fouled up. Machining the heads is a little more complicated.

You can get gaskets, llinks below. If things aren't mirror smooth, go with the gaskets.

Exhaust leak

I too am suffering an exhaust leak in my 330.
My truck is a 73' F600 w/manual 5 speed trans.
I too am considering a replacement. Just trying to preserve and prolong the truck I have.
What did you wind up going with?

It looks like the Remflex 3073
(also
from Amazon from Amazon
)
fits our 330/361/391 FT engines, and has the correct center section gasket and the two bolts to accommodate the crossover.

Also, with the heat shield feature, Mahle MS15573,
from Amazon from Amazon
and https://www.jegs.com/i/Clevite-MAHLE/695/MS15573/10002/-1:

I'm reasonably sure my '73 F600 361 has leaks on both sides, so I'm glad that this thread was revived.
