I''m looking for a locking fuel cap for my '02 Excursion. I get a lot of conflicting results when searching for one. I'm hoping someone here has one so I can buy the right one.
Thanks!
Looks like there are two types (why there might be confusion), treaded or notched. You can easily find out which one you need by looking at the existing cap.
If you need treaded cap there is a black one or if you want to get fancy a green one.
I knew I need the threaded type but I've seen two different numbers being tossed out at me. They're both the same looking black cap. The conflicting thing I get is one place will say one fits my EX while another says it won't and vice versa. I've got an old Stant locking cap right now but there's no number on it. The lock sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I'm just trying to find out what number is the right one. If the threads are standardized in general, then any threaded cap should work.

Those part numbers I linked are from a search on Gates website. If you want another brand then maybe their website will have a search by vehicle option. Just fyi the 2002 super duty 7.3 have the same part numbers i linked (for gates).
But you did remind me that i been meaning to get a locking cap also. I have gasser with 44 gallons of gold just sitting there for the taking.. It is the same notched one i linked, got the black one. Maybe the diesel got treaded and gas got notched caps? Dont know but gates have both types listed for the 7.3 but only the one for my gas..
