So I just purchased a 2001 excursion with the translucent headlight lenses. Obviously those are going in the bin and I'm getting the 02-04 clear style, but I'm curious if anyone has tried to bake the housings apart to swap just the lenses. I'm not terribly keen on being the guinea pig, lol.
I've found several ultra cheap clear headlight housings with broken mounting tabs on the back side and perfectly good lenses... wouldn't mind being able to get them installed for just a little extra effort
You can get the aftermarket clear lens units cheap...$100 new, and half that used. I've had the new units in our trucks for a dozen years now with no issues...
The aftermarket ones I got unfortunately used permaseal and could not separate them even with baking. I had the pleasure of cutting them off with a dremel and having to reseal using 3M polyurethane.
(Purchased from Headlights Depot)
I would imagine most of the aftermarket options would be created by the same plant in China using the same permaseal.
If anyone has found headlamps that use butyl rubber, post up! It would make retrofitting projectors a lot easier : )
