Shot shocks?

Hi again folks.

question about the shocks on my recently acquired '86 F250 XL, 4x4.

it sat for a few years a few years ago. The shocks are all rusted up in the front especually and seem to me to be siezed. It is a *very* rough ride down my dirt road... feel every pebble. i assume im riding on only the front leafs.

I would like to fix this! I assume i need new shocks and cant repair these? Suggestions for new shocks? Which should i use?

thanks!

Did your truck used to live in a salt mine? That’s a lot of rust.

Is the bottom shock mount broken? Hard to be sure from the picture, but it looks to be just hanging there.

The shocks themselves are not repairable. Replacement is the only option.

Sort of. I live in Canada. Winters are real.

No, its not as bad as it looks. Photo with the flash in the dark... i dont know.

im pretty sure thats how its supposed to be mounted on this truck..?

Like i said, i assumed that it needs to be replaced. Wondering if anyone has suggestions on which shocks to replace with..

I installed Monroe 34928 shocks on the front of my truck. It’s an ‘84 F250HD 4X4 8600GVW. Can’t say if your truck takes the same ones.

Edit: RockAuto is great for researching part numbers and different brands. They typically have lots of notes such as GVW, etc.

These nuts and bolts will be a place to use PB Blaster or the better Aero-Kroil, let the fluid sit for a short time and if you have an impact gun and sockets, you should be able to remove the old stuff.

Most of Canada is served by Canadian Tire. Go to their website and put in your year of truck and see what they offer. They do carry Monroe shocks.

Thanks again folks! Seems like Canadian Tire does carry the Monroe gas-magnum shocks for front and rear. Im gonna soak in some pb blaster for a couple days and throw those on later this week. That oughtta smoothen out the ride a bit... haha
