Can Ford Do No Wrong With the 2022 Maverick?

The Maverick has a lot going for it, but concessions must be made for such an affordable vehicle.

Looks like a cross between a Ridgeline and a Frontier.

Have you seen the interiors .. The xl is the best but cant be had with cruise control at this day and age. Then theres the hood flex at speed ... Then theres the full size spare which is not full size.. Dont forget about the 3k oil change for hot climate areas. Those are just a few i heard of so yes they can do wrong.

No Cruise in the XL! Really Ford! Leave out all the unnecessary nannies, that anybody who knows how to set mirrors properly and operate the a motor vehicle like me don't want or need! But even a pure work truck drives for 100's of miles at a time and plain old basic cruise allows the driver to move leg around at times during drive. Not many places left in US where you are on two lane only road going through a small town every five miles and slow down therefore moving leg to different position.

l just read a write-up on the Maverick, although it doesn't really interest me. I just like to read about new vehicles, even though I'm pretty happy with my old-tech pickups.

It was all pretty interesting with the options and end-user choices for accessories. I had to tune-out when l got to Active Cruise Control and all of the electronic bells and whistles (literally) that help make my life challenging every day in my work truck. That thing (Freightliner) has more dings and dongs and beeps and alarms... most of the time l don't even know what it's trying to tell me. Add that to the fact that I've had the truck get scared during a passing maneuver and slam on the brakes, forcing me to abort and drop down several gears... not good at all. No thanks.

The active cruise is only available on the lariat.. So the xl and xlt doesnt have it... But the auto braking is standard on all trims..

I was trying the active cruise and lane centering assist out on a 2018 honda.. It was pretty cool, i let the lane centering do it thing without my hands on the wheel to see what it would do.. It kept on the road for about 10 seconds but said to put hands on wheel with visual and beeps but if you didnt do this the lane centering just turns off but the active cruise stays in lol.. So it just keeps its speed right off the road or into the other lane.. I would think a better solution would be to keep lane centering but stop the vehicle.. This was a 2018 and honda so maybe newer/other manufacturers dont do this.

Active cruise is a nannie! I just want plain old cruise control. Set speed and hit brake when need to slow or cancel the cruise. Not even available in the XL is unacceptable. If they want the car BASIC then why does it need power steering? Little lightweight aluminum four under the hood.

Really ? that's all you got for complaints? It's an XL, the bottom of the line. I wouldn't expect so much but people expect top line stuff for cheap.

I'm thinking of getting one for the run around stuff and the XL is just for that. At $20k it's not a luxury vehicle.... yeah sorry I sound snotty but really I would rather have comfortable seats then CC

Cruise control is not a luxury anymore. It is a standard option for like a decade.. Can you make one other vehicle that doesn't come standard with cruise control?

I am sure there are plenty that don't on the Bottom trim level.
Personally I've never used it even when I had it (and I have it now ) so I've not looked and it's not worth my time to look. My point is that I can see that being an issue on the next trim level up but not something to 'complain' about on a $20k vehicle.
I was looking for a Hybrid car for beating around town and short errands so I don't waste gas in the 'real' truck. Shoot, for $22k I get not only a hybrid CHEAP but also one I can toss dirt in the back if I want and not have to worry about the carpet in the trunk. For that price I almost expect it to have Roll up windows

Even the base Mitsubishi Mirage has cruise control and its a Mitsubishi! If only they had sunroof (now thats a luxury) i could save 10k.. Now that i think of it, that is an expensive sunroof lol.

Not that it isn't standard equipment for 20K. It is fact that you cannot even order it!
I never had cruise in my 1965 F-100 or my 1978 Dodge Tradesman 100 van, but would have appreciated it on multiple 200- 400 mile drives. One can only hope for a aftermarket solution as I have no need or want for any trim level than the XL.

I never used it in my 5 trips from MA to TX in the '06 F350 or the same trip 4 times in my '02 Yukon XL.

Thing is... if Everything was in the base model then why would you spend more for the upper model ?

I have a a Lariat Lux hybrid on order. Sat in a Lariat yesterday.
Wrong:
-Visors are chintzy
-Legroom is tight in the cheap seats behind my 5'9 self.

Right:
Everything else.

My 2016 F-150 XL had no cruise control or power windows.
