Odometer Question

My odometer looks like a photo negative thats melted. The milage numbers are gone. What I need to know is if I take the odometer off the back of the speedometer, knock out the dirt, etc. then put it back on will that restore the numbers ? or do I need to hit the junk yards and grab one from junk truck and just hope the odometer works.?
1993 f150 xlt 5.0. Any help will be appreciated...

Texasguy001, Thanks for the response. Someone told me I probably need to hit the pull lot. Do I have to have the EXACT year donor truck or will several years fit? I won't know if the pull lot odometer is ok or not, right? just have to bite the bullett and hope, huh? Well, I'm a 87 year old Texan and I thank ya for your help. Adios.

The display itself can be replaced without replacing the PSOM or speedometer head.
This will keep your mileage and setup.
Just take the display off of one from a salvage yard.

Odometer Question

Well Howdy Mr. Sub Ford. I sure didn't expect to hear from you. It's been about three years since you helped me solve my problem with my pcm, and by the way that computer is still humm-n along. Your response to my odometer problem sure looks good and I will hit the pull lot as quick as I can. I called around to some of the lots and it's hard to find an exact 93 f150 xlt. I'm told that several years will fit, I'm not as quick com-n out of the shoot as I used to be, but I will post results as soon as I can. Thanks for the response, Adios, Trimtab.

subford, Is there any way for me to look at the odo in the junk f150 when I take it apart at the pull lot to tell if it looks like it might work? If the screen is torn or ripped , is that reason enough to look for another one ? I read where he took the film off and he said he didn't think it would be a problem. I just hate to take the whole cluster apart to get to the psom and not have any idea if the odo has a chance or not. When you said just pull the display from the junk yard one, where you refering to that whole picture as the "display" or just a particular part of it. Sorry about this question, guess I'm just get'n long in the tooth. Thanks , adios, trimtab.

Just look at it before removing the cluster and see if it looks clear or If the screen is torn or ripped.

odometer question

Odometer- Well, now I know what the hardest part of this job is, that's "Finding" a odo with a clear display. I've about worn out this old computer checking pull lots and every site I can think of, but no joy. I was hope'n someone out there could point me toward the best places to start to look for one. If yaw'll were looking for a psom/odo for a 1993 F150 xlt 5.0, what would your list look like ?
1-pull lots, 2-e-bay, 3-your best friends truck, etc: I thought maybe you guys with all the expertise have a special place you would look for one first. If not, that's no problem, I'll just keep on truck'n. Thanks, Adios , Trimtab.

This is what my display look like. just fyi

odometer question trimtab

If all I want is to replace the odo display, does it matter if my donor junk yard psom has a tact or not ? My instrument cluster on my 1993 f150 xlt 5.0 has a tact on the right of the speedometer and since I only care about the odo, I'm guess'n it doesn't matter, right ? Never fooled around with these before, so I need alittle help.. Thanks in advance. trimtab

No it does not.

You can get one from a no tact cluster or one with a tact cluster.
You can get one from any 1992 -1996 F-series or Broncos or any 90's E-series that have OBS stile cluster/odometer.

SubFord-- It took me a couple of weeks to find a PSOM with an ODO CLEAR display. I didn't remove the entire cluster. I went in from the front. Took off the shroud, Plastic and black shroud. Popped out the PSOM and removed the shifter controls from the PSOM, took out the burned up ODO. Inserted the clear ODO.
Pic's below. I ran for a couple of days before I buttoned it up. I unhooked the fuel selector switch so I could screw the switch onto the shroud, then I plugged the switch back in and installed the dash shroud. All done I thought...Try to start it and --- NO START. Now it had been starting and running great after I changed out the ODO. I did a lot of looking on the forums for tips, so I ck'ed the batt--OK, ck'ed fuel pump relay--OK, ck'ed selonoid--OK, Pulled the diode and put it back in, Put in a new fuel selector switch. and the dad-gum thing fired right up and has continued to fire and run great. I'm wondering if unplugging the fuel selector switch could have caused no start. Anyway, I want to thank you much for all your help along with the other responders. Adios, Trimtab
