Hi I have a 1976 F250 4x4,360 4 speed. I need to do all the u joints in this truck. Can anyone tell me are they all the same joint for all 3 driveshafts? Everything I look at says they should be but I want to be sure before i order them.
Just to clarify I'm only talking about the 3 driveshafts, not the front axles.
Thanks
So the 4891 u joint looks like they are all the same. Now is the Spicer 1310/1330 is the one you guys like? This is just to get the truck driving shes not a mudder although itll see a bit of 4x4 action for sure.
Well I would avoid even the top shelf parts house brand, if you have Spicer available. Remove the complete front d/s (that way the truck is still drivable) and pop one out and do some measureing.
The only way to know for sure is to measure them. They'll be 1310's, 1330's, and probably at least one "conversion" that is both (1330 in one dimension and 1310 in another).
Ford wasn't real consistent with what joint they put where. Measure and then reference.
1310 will have a 3.22 (3 1/4") outside measurement in both planes with 1.06" diameter caps. 1330 will have the same diameter caps but will be 3.625" (3 5/8") across.
The Spicer book says that there are conversion joints at each end of the front and rear driveshafts and straight 1310s at the shaft between the transmission and transfer case of a part-time system.
On a full time system, it says that they're all 1310s except the one at the rear of the transmission.
On the last 3 pages posted locate your Vehicle and on the far right of the page is the U-Joint code. Take that number to the page Rich has posted above and I have also posted here and that will give you the OEM U-Join. If you have any problems or questions or progress post back. BTW what transmission is in your highboy ?
On my 72 highboy, the u-joints were not all the same. The front and rear shaft were all the same u-joints and the intermediate shaft took a different size u-joint(3.220") That size I got off Rockauto's site from the parts I had ordered. I took mine all out and measured them before I ordered though. I was paranoid about ordering wrong parts.
