Ball joints?

Im looking to replace the ball joints on my 1980 F250 4x4. What is a good brand? I want the good, greaseabletype.

Thanks

I just replaced mine with Moog. They have always served me well.

You guys wouldn't pay more for Motorcraft? I am leaning towards them even though they are more expensive. I was thinking that since the OEM ones lasted quite a while and might be worth the extra dough.

x3 on Moog. I prefer a greaseable ball joint over the non-greaseable OEM style.

More expensive doesn't = better quality. Over the years I have learned some brands are just better. Moog, BWD, Fel-Pro, Dorman, while I consider Motorcraft to be OK that's my personal opinion. Others think they are great. My Father would buy nothing else for his Ford trucks. Every ball joint I have replaced with Moog, I have never had to replace again. Based on that personal experience I suggest Moog.

But the best advise I can give is this. Ball joints are NO fun to replace and directly involve your safety. Don't cheap out, whatever brand you buy make it a quality, well known company. This is no place for a cheap, China made, knock off. (disclaimer: that was not meant to be a polictical statement)

Oh come on, tell us what happened. That's how we learn. Did you have one break on you?

I went back with Motorcraft ball joints.

Why? My stock ones lasted 25 years and almost 200,000 miles (100,000 miles with ridiculously wide oversize tires, courtesy of the previous owner) before they were worn out.

You can't ask for much better service than that.

Wow that's not good. So I should have said some brands have been good for "me".

Sure you can. My factory king pins have in excess of 300,000 miles on them......
Dad's 74 F100 still has the factory king pins, and that truck has done well over 500,000 miles.
Grease is cheaper than parts.

No comparison between ball joints and king pins

Very true. Ball joints lose every time, aside from at the alignment shop. Of course, camber *shouldn't* need adjusted on a king pin system more than once......
