hello let me introduce myself. my name is hans and i live in the netherlands. I have a 2000 Ford Excursion 6.8 V10. I have the known problem with the cylinder heads. I've already made this once by putting feldman buses in it. but unfortunately they are broken again. now my question is, can i replace my 2 valve engine for a 3 valve engine? or does the computer not work? hopefully someone understands. thanks in advance. Greetings from Holland.
What is the problem with the engine? Spark Plugs im guessing?
If you have Spark plugs that ejected just order the Cal-Van kit for the 2V engines, also sometimes called timesert and this fix is permanent. Do not use heli-coils, they dont last.
This: Remember this comes with 8 pieces, but you need 10, so you need to buy 2 more pieces, or else 2 kits, and you will have extra pieces.
The computer won't run the 3V engine very well. It will probably start and drive, but not as well as the current engine. So you'll need to install the 3V wiring and computer. But that computer won't operate the 4R100 transmission in your truck. So you will either need to get a stand alone controller for the transmission or change the transmission for a 5R110W. That was the trans that came with the 3V engine in the F-Series.
In the Mustang world i have seen the computer from a 2V 4.6 run a 3V 4.6 and even a 4V 4.6 but it takes a tuner worth his metal to make it run right, and its only 95% as good as having the proper computer, for instance, the computer in a 2003-2004 Mach 1 or SVT Cobra and the 05-10 GTs has 10 levels of timing tables where as the computer from the 2V only has 4 tables, so you give up the level of precision timing tuning but most times the power you gain from the higher flowing motor is worth the trade off. You also have to mess with adapting sensors and re-wiring a number of them and this to my knowledge was never done by anyone with the V10, all the ones i saw was people who had 3V and 4V engines put in place of the 2V in a 99-04 GT. Timing tables was just one example of giving up a useful feature to be able to make the swap work. Its not something for the faint of heart to undertake.
You would also have to disable the runner control on the 3V as the 2V computer cannot make that work. But that should be as easy as disconnecting the servo motor and zip tying the arm into position for the long runners to be open, which is what the 2V v10 has anyway, only long runners. Or you could "try" to delete the valves but that is even more hassle and required a lot of work in the 99-04 3.8L motors to jb weld closed the shaft holes inside the intake runners after they were removed. I did a lot of that kinda stuff in my mustang days, I had 5 Mustangs and i think 7 motors now for them. 2 Expeditions(both 3V), and now the Excursion which is on its second motor, you could say i have had my hands in a lot of Modular motors lol.

Thank you for youre answer, yes indeed i have problem’s with the sparkplugs . I have the right buses but t is broke again 🤬. . Thats why i asked if it;s posible ,but i understand it’s not so easy . I thinking for a whole new engine .
Another option that should be easier than a complete new motor would be a set of newer 2V heads from '03 onward, they have more threads for the spark plugs and don't see the plug blowout issue that the earlier heads sometimes experience.
