Applied the spray-on ceramic from Griot’s Garage today ( https://www.griotsgarage.com/product...rPicks&from=fn ). It’s pretty simple to apply and the initial result is nice. Anyone have experience with this or a similar product?
I've been using the Mother's CMX spray on coating for 2 years. It goes on easy, it adds a lot of depth to the metallic paint and you can see water bead and sheet off the paint. I don't think it "lasts" as long as the expensive pro-installed product, but for my needs it's been great!
I will be claying my truck somewhere near the Holidays since it's being built now. Gonna wait about 3 months from now since I have no idea when it was actually painted. But claying it will remove all the rail dust and chemicals from the atmosphere in this industrial town I live in. Then after claying I'll apply the ceramic.
I wouldn't necessarily call it a DIY ceramic coating, it's more of a hybrid ceramic spray. Take your pick of brand, Turtle Wax, Meguire's, Mothers, Adams(maybe stronger than the others), you name it, they all have a similar Si02 based spray product. Performance does vary and I'm definitely interested to see how you like the Griots version.
I have ceramic coated 5 vehicles. 2 trucks and 3 motorcycles. Very pleased with results. Lots of prep work to get a good result, and aftercare is important too. By they all look great and 2 of them are now at 4 years.
I have a auto detail business on the side and the preferred method is CG ceramic. However, I need to do a quartz version to see how that system performs as compared to ceramic. The trick is doing this in low light and utilizing a black light to make sure you don’t miss any coverage.
I have done 2 different vehicles with Adams Graphing Ceramic Coatings with Great results!
You just need to make Sure you Prep your vehicle first. i am NOT a professional by any means!!
This past spring I calybared, buffed and used Griots Garage Si02 ceramic spray. The results were great, I a m washing the truck with Maguires ceramic car wash. Water beads off like I just applied the coating. I even used the GG on the windshield. water beads off that puppy I can just about get away without using the wipers.
Truck looks great after every washing. End result, you will not be disappointed in this product.

You’re going to really like it. And. You’ll be asked a lot……. “What color is that??” The color changes constantly and it’s my favorite by far of the current choices. it does show dirt kinda like black does though.
