Hi. I have a problem with my 2000 Eddie Bauer Expedition that my dealership (Dobbs Ford, Memphis, TN) has failed to diagnose or rectify after 5 service visits. My vehicle idles roughly (400-500 rpm) and surges then stalls after coming to a stop occasionally. Here's what happens. After stopping, and on the brake, the engine will roughly idle and surge but will (usually) still run. Another clue; the problem occurs more frequently when stopping on an incline or decline. When the accelerator is pressed the engine then stalls. Restarting doesn't normally clear the problem. It will start/idle normally in 'park,' then roughly idle/surge when 'drive' is selected. Typically the car has to sit turned off several minutes then it will run normally.
Dobbs has replaced the intake gaskets, the idle-air control valve, and verified that I have the latest program load. They drove the car briefly, but since this problem happens sporatically they weren't able to verify the malfunction firsthand. Their maintenence computer doesn't find any fault codes when they examine my vehicle, but the problem only occurs when the vehicle is moving then comes to a stop. Now they are telling me that since they can't diagnose the problem, they can't do anything more for me. Just doing a cursory internet search I was able to find another 2000 Eddie Bauer Expedition owner that had a similar problem (http://www.tgrigsby.com/views/angela.htm) so I'm assuming that this defect might be widespread. I like my car, but this is my wife and children's primary vehicle, and I can't allow this problem to go unresolved. Has anyone here experienced or heard of a similar problem?
