I read there is a switch in the door lock that activates the interior lights i sprayed around there hoping to hit the switch am i in the right place 1998 ranger 2.5 XLT
I see you don't have any answers yet so will see if I can get things started. Been a while since any have reported this problem & yes the door latch area is where to generously spray WD-40 or CRC heavy duty silicone spray, or the like & hope things inside the switch aren't so corroded as to need replacing it, as that's not a fun job. Let us know what you use & how it goes.
Just found the fuse missing for the interior lights PO must have removed it refitting fuse there is a relay clicking under p/s dash anyone know what that relay is for maybe PO battery drain?... 2 door 1998 ranger
Ok, good feedback on the dome lamp timing out & turning off. That suggests the GEM battery saver circuit is awake & working for now.
If the fuse #26 info came from the owner manual, look to the right under "Description", for a list of other things also powered through this fuse & you'll notice a list of relays you may, or may not have, depending on your vehicle model accessory trim level, so you likely heard one of them waking up when inserting the fuse.
From your feedback we think we know the battery saver relay, interior lamp relay & that part of the GEM circuit appear to be awake & working but since relays are a known problem part & this circuit has Two plus whatever is also in the GEM, keep an eye on that dome light for a while, so you don't find a drained battery from it staying on intermittently!!!
