pro charged v10 build

ok so here we go 5.4 pro charger on a v10 although the 5.4 and v10 are very similar there are a few differences that make this a bit harder than just a bolt on deal. but if a guy has reasonable mechanical skils and patience it is doable!

you bet I will post more pictures when I get it back from being tuned. so obviously the timing cover on a v10 and 5.4 is exactly the same so as far as the super charger bracket goes it is a direct bolt on however the valve cover on the v10 is taller due too the balance shaft over the drivers side cam soo modification to the valve cover is necessary to get the blower to clear. then depending on if your v10 is a 8 rib like min or a six rib serpentine belt you will have to shim the bracket forward some or replace the crank pulley and belt with a six rib setup then the crank pulley for the blower is shallower the the harmonic balancer requiring shims to keep it from pushing the outer ring of the balancer into the timing cover. after that it is just a mater of plumbing the charge air cooler and piping I used a power stroke intercooler and skipped the procharger fmu and put in bigger injectors and fuel pump it is pulleyed to make 8-9psi on a 5.4 so we will see what see makes unfortunately not until Monday

Is the motor built or modded, or is it high mileage? I wonder about the longevity with this setup. please give us details, as doing this to a 200k+ motor obviously isnt ideal.

I just put in a brand new v10 myself pistons, rods, the works.

it is a fresh engine but it is stock internals that shouldn't be a problem at the boost level we are talking about

Im guessing 6-7 psi on the V10, and maybe 375-390 hp, I will be surprised if it gets over 400 but it is possible. The torque tho is going to be bigger, i would not be surprised to see getting close to 500 ft lbs.

Thats all based on the pulley you mentioned and my own opinionated guesswork tho.

Back in the mid 80s, some of my car buddies decided that they wanted to put superchargers on their "show" vehicles. One was a big block (455) Cutlass, one a big block Firebird, and one a big block Corvette. (I had neither the time nor the finances to play that game with them.)

They wound up with some beautiful, street legal rides, but it wound up being more complicated (and expensive) than they thought.

Cooling was an issue as none of the stock cooling systems were adequate. They all wound up putting in the biggest after-market radiator they could get. The Cutlass was eventually equipped with electric pusher and puller fans to get enough air flow through the radiator. It also got "double" head gaskets to reduce the compression ratio a bit.

I have no idea what extras you might need, but I love the project! (And am curious as to where that thing's gas mileage winds up!!!!)

The supercharger from a 5.4 should not have much of a heating issue to the V10, as long as he uses an inter-cooler from a 7.3 or 6.NO truck. The V10 is already lower compression from the factory, so that box is already checked. And the V10 was build to be mucked around like a work horse in harsh environments so it already has a large radiator and fairly solid cooling, though i put an upgraded radiator in mine that is all aluminum and thicker just so i knew i didn't have to worry about it when i do any kind of tuning and upgrades. The V10 engine itself should really only need Injectors, A bigger fuel pump, and seperation of the MAF and IAT so that the intake temp is read from the compressed side of the intake, so that the intake temps going into the engine are accurate, that one is major important otherwise your tuner will have to wing it and estimate the temps, which is a very bad idea.

Looks like I'm going to have to fire the tuner. I couldn't get into my regular guy for a while so I made an appointment and the I thought I would look into these guys and they have alot of good reviews and a few bad but that's to be expected but after a week of excuses and now caught them lying to me I'm done sure glad I didn't cancel my appointment with my regular guy!

so evidently they use hp tuners and thought it would work on th ex but it is not supported that's fine I understand so we buy a sct x4 nearly doubling my bill again that's fine the x4 gets here and I get a text that my battery is bad well its under warranty so I jump in the car and run one over so they can get started the next day (last fri) I follow up to see how it went and they told me that sct didn't support the calibration code to the pcm but they thought it was just a mistake I stop by later in the day to see what's going on and am told that the problem was it had been nearly 3 years since they had used sct and they had to take tests to be certified again witch I'm told they have done but it takes 24hrs for it to take effect ok I'm reasonable I'm getting frustrated but I'm reasonable I call today at noon hoping for good news I'm told the tuner just got there 🙄 ok I wait until 3 and call back and now he is at lunch! ok I wait until 4:30 and call back to be told he still has a test to take😡 so the 24hr clock hasn't started was it a lie or a misunderstanding I don't know but my appointment with the tuner I trust has arrived this wensday so I not going to miss it screwing around with these guys
