Good evening everyone. Well I've been debating on what aftermarket engine to go with and landed on Tristar engines. Got a 1995 f150 5.8/351w no MAF & stock efi. Tristar offers a direct OE long block or they offer a 310 hp 380tq long block. since I do alot of towing that would make it a heck of a lot more pleasant. So question time. Can I get away with it by dropping bigger injectors in it and making sure the cam is efi friendly? Thanks
Yes to Cam EFI friendly.
No to bigger injectors, unless you program your EFI for it.
No point to bigger injectors unless you can program the EFI for them, sure you can put them in, but there is no point, the computer needs the data that match the injectors flow rate, pulse width, yadda yadda.
^^^^ " you must run the 460 ECM to make the swap work."
Just use the correct tuner for the application, and enter the correct data.
Using a 460 computer for 24lb injectors sounds like a hack, my opinion.

How is it a hack the 460 came with 24's, its another option, that works, and you dont need engineering school to learn it.
no matter what ECM you use it will be a hack, 351w came with 19's. either way your fibbing to the ECM, you use.
That's why I say get a Tuner for what ever ECM/PCM you have.
I would have to assume everything in the 460 tune would be different, timing tables, torque tables, fuel tables, etc.
I would think one would still need to tune the 460 ECM just like having to tune the current ECM with any change to the hard parts in the motor.
If I was to get an EFI crate motor, install everything, get it running, get a tuner, data log how the current injectors are functioning, then make the determination as to whether or not the motor even needs bigger injectors.
My guess, is that unless this motor is running at >4500 rpm at WOT all the time, injector size is a moot point.
Just dropping 24lb injectors in without any change to ECM, probably will run rich, so you get a tuner.
Leave the 19lb injectors in will run perfectly fine as a daily, just be careful about going lean when >4000 rpm WOT.
In any event, get a tuner, or a tunable EFI system.
I didnt see the 310hp one. But the stock replacement one was like 3400 and change. Jegs has atk engines for 2400.
What i didnt understand on tristar site was the statement "Remanufactured not rebuilt"... the hell does that mean?
It is the same thing. Now if they said remanufactured not refreshed that would be different.
also, the phrase simulation tested for oil pressure... simulation? Does it get started and run to check or just spun with a drill?
