Transmission Problem
It's on an
4x2 89 F150, 300 inline 6, transmission is a 3 speed C6.
Truck shifts as it should cold but after 20 min or so trans will start making a hissing noise that you can not hear in the cab. With in short time of that hissing sound the trans will not shift into any forward gears or reverse. Will not move .
But if you let it sit over night you can drive it and it shifts normal. No slipping, No hard shifts works as it should until the hissing starts again!
I pulled the pan and found NO shavings, NO burned smell, and the fluid looks as it should, but flushed it and replaced the tran filter, also replaced the transmission cooler.
Any one have and idea what's going on?

I take it the fluid level is correct? Proper fluid type? The hissing makes me think of air being drawn into the pump and then the fluid gets all foamy.
When exactly did the problem start? Any other recent work on the transmission? I wonder if the gasket on the filter is not sealing well where it plugs into the transmission. If the gap was small, the fluid may be thick enough to bridge it when cold. But as the fluid heats up, it gets thinner and can't seal the gap, causing an air leak.
Was the latest filter the same as the previous brand?
