Wow.

I just got caught short too, on a 2022 F-250 pickup I recently spec'ed for a friend.

Lariat Ultimate... not Platinum, nor Limited.

Wow.

Really Ford?

Someone else please step in this thread and provide any additional information to prevent Brantel and I from rounding up a posse and riding to Dearborn.

Wait... how do we get there?

Did your subscription expire?

I betting it's hysteria. I just downloaded the 2022 F-250 Owner's Manual and read the section for Navigation and there is no mention of a subscription for anything beyond the Live Traffic offering. The rest of the instructions look pretty similar to my 2019 Owner's Manual.

My 19 is a value package so I added the nav as a stand-alone option. It doesn’t come close to being as good as Waze/Apple/Google. My 22 is an ultimate so nav is included but I doubt I’ll even use it. Especially since they have wireless car play. I just hook up a cord now to use waze on my screen. It’ll be even easier now. They definitely won’t be getting 80/yr from me.

To me, the only thing the factory nav is good for is if you are out of cell service. For me, that’s not an issue except for maybe once a year on a vacation to WY to snowmobile. For someone that lives in an area with poor signal, I suppose this is a bigger issue.

On board navigation is going to get sketchy as more vehicle manufacturers incorporate Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Honestly, I have used the Ford navigation a handful of times. My phone is usually plugged in, Android Auto is active, and Waze is on the display.

In my wife's 2017 Infiniti, her navigation is updated via SD Card, which I have NEVER updated. Again, a phone is usually available, and routes are planned where service is available. Waze, for instance, will archive the route and function even without cell service.

Don't be surprised if manufacturer provided navigation goes away. The big displays won't though. It'll still be used for the phone based systems. Anybody got a CD player in a new truck? No? Guess what they expect you to be using, your phone. It's only a matter of time.

I contacted Ford regarding the Nav system and their response below,
"Good afternoon, Timothy – thanks for taking the time to send us a private message. My name is Gordie and I'm a Social Media Specialist for Ford. After the Connected Service navigation free trial period, the cost of the subscription is $80/year for both Connected and Connected Built-in Navigation. For further assistance with Ford Connected Services, I recommend reaching out to the Marketing Program Headquarters at 1-800-334-4375, option 1 then 4. Gordie Ford Service Team"

I suggest we make our concerns/disappointment/dissatisfaction know to to Ford by contacting Ford Marketing Program Headquarters at 1-800-334-4375, option 1 then 4, as the Ford Service Team member stated.

For those that are worried about not being in an area with cell service, just download Magic Earth to your phone.
It’s totally free and the maps can be used on or offline and yes, it’s still far superior than the OEM navigation and yes, it’ll still show up on the center stack screen in your vehicle when Apple CarPlay or Android Auto is engaged.
Also, you can pick any or all 50 States as well as different countries.

Ok, it looks like a better understanding is needed on the differences between:

1. "Connected Navigation"

versus

2. "Connected Built-In Navigation"

Platinum and Limited get #2 and the rest of us that paid a premium for a Navigation System get #1 or in other words a 12" moving map for our 4 digit donation!

To maintain the "lifetime" in Garmin lifetime maps you must download maps regularly and I think that the maximum interval is two years.

After studying the 22 Ordering guide, I see that the Connected Navigation is included in all Lariats regardless of the package selected so that makes me feel a little better about this situation. It almost appears like "Connected Navigation" is just an App running on the Sync4 system and the "Connected Built-In Navigation" has a traditional NAV module added onto the system more like what we have seen in the past. That is just speculation on my part however.

Brantel,
From what the Ford rep told me over the phone, the Sync4 connected navigation will cease to function after the 90 day free trial period unless you pay the $80.00 per year subscription fee. If you choose not to pay, all you get is a moving map with no functionality. You will not be able to enter destinations, plan routes etc.

Why do you feel better if you are still in the same boat?

The only difference found in your discovery is that a whole lot more people are in the same boat with us.

Because I purchased the Lariat Ultimate for other reasons besides the Navigation features. Knowing that the price of that package had nothing to do with the Nav system, makes me feel a little bit better. Not a whole lot better

Good thing I do not use that feature anyway! However I do want what I paid for!

Interesting reading here. Just another decision point on if I will upgrade from my 2019 F350 DRW to a 2022 F350 SRW when my new truck is built and delivered.
I will consider the cost delta and differences between the 2 trucks to determine if an upgrade is worth it, or not. Luckily for me I love my current truck and it only has 22,000 miles on it, so I don't have to upgrade unless I want to. Nice to know that there are other options for navigation though phones. I am an old forester, so my 2019 is the first truck with navigation, I still carry paper maps and love them....

Not really an issue with Google maps as you can download offline maps. If I'm traveling, I create offline maps for all the areas that I plan on going, just in case. Without cell service, you just have moving maps and no re-routing if you get lost, but that looks like what you get with Ford now anyway.
