'17 5.0 issues

started having a few issues lately and not sure if they are all related or some separate issues and looking for some help. it is a 2017 with the 5.0 and 6 speed transmission. it now has 170,000 miles on it. at around 100,000- 120,000 I replaced the plugs, coils and intake manifold. no CEL is on.

1. occasionally I will get a very rough idle and twice it has died while in park. after starting back up it idles normally.

2. when going 40-70mph and lightly accelerating it will feel like I am driving over rumble strips.

3. going 30-60mph lightly blipping the throttle I hear a whining sound that sounds like a high pitch tire roar.

fuel millage is around 15mpg right now with 275-70-18 mud tires, brush guard and leveling kit.

throttle body was replaced at the same time as the intake, should it be bad in 50-75k miles? This is a Ford part not aftermarket intake and throttle body.

Parts break. You could also have a lose bolt somewhere or a bad gasket.

quick update,
first I scanned my truck and found a P0012 but no CEL.

Also had my oil changed Thursday and now when warm and I try and start it I get a strange grinding sound but the motor doesn't spin over. however on the second attempt it has always cranked normally. this doesn't happen when cranking it for the first time each morning. I don't know if any of this is related but hoping it is or my truck is completely falling apart.

My guess is the bendix is failing on your starter motor (not completely popping out when started). It may be affected by temperature or other factors.

What’s the definition of the code you mentioned.
I take it you have a heavy foot because if not,15 MPG on the Coyote is horrible.

Just an update, some problems fixed others remain.

I pulled and cleaned the throttle body, it had a decent amount of varnish on it.

1. occasionally I will get a very rough idle and twice it has died while in park. after starting back up it idles normally.

2. when going 40-70mph and lightly accelerating it will feel like I am driving over rumble strips. STILL THERE

3. going 30-60mph lightly blipping the throttle I hear a whining sound that sounds like a high pitch tire roar. FIXED, this was rear end bearings.

4. Starter was bad now fixed.

the P0012 is a Intake camshaft position timing - over - retarded (bank 1)

I don't think I have a heavy foot. I'm not racing stoplight to stoplight. most of my driving is highway and is pretty evenly split between cruse set at 68 and 78. if I set the cruse at 55 it shows on the 30min gauge 20-22 mpg. all of this is very flat driving.

55-60 MPH is the sweet spot for the best MPG’s on the Coyote equipped F150.
68-78 will definitely kill your fuel mileage.

Most of my driving is on the highway as well with some city driving but my average combined is 21.9 - 22.6 and I always drive between 55 & 60 on the highway with the cruise control set.

Wish I could help more. Might be worth looking back at 11-14 5.0 issues for similar if you haven’t already.

Without having experienced those, lots it could be. Rumble could be trans or engine, stall could be throttle body, vacuum leak, sensor issue, or evap (purge valve?). Most of those will usually set a code though.

Do you have forscan to look at misfire counts or other diagnostics that could help?
