Ran into a problem with my 2016 F150 with a 5.0. It has 52,500 miles on it and I have recently ran into a problem where sometimes it will idle rough at 590/600 rpm (it will drop and feel rough, but doesn't drop a ton). One day while doing this, I was sitting at a stoplight and it just died on me. I put it in neutral and it restarted right away. It hasn't done that since.
I put a Bosch scan tool on it and it says no codes, no pending codes, and nothing crazy that I could see in the live data.
Any ideas? I got the 7yr/75,000 mile warranty when I bought it, so I am going to take it to the dealership, but I still want an idea of what I'm in for.
Under warranty I'd let the dealer give it a shot. If they can't find anything wrong, I'd start with a set of spark plugs and a throttle body cleaning. Sometimes the throttle plate gets a bit sticky and the PCM can't compensate for engine load fast enough to avoid a stall.
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. Honestly, this truck has about 10,000 miles to get right with this issue or it's getting traded off. It has a ton of miles on it already, and I dont want it getting out of warranty then having a ton of problems... I love it, but problems these days are expensive.

Sounds like it might be time for a tune up.
Yes, I know it`s kind of early but parts do wear out. Based on your description of the problem you`re having, it sounds like you might have a bad coil pack or two.
Check or replace your air filter lately? Bad gas can make it misbehave a bit. You can also unplug your battery for a while (like 20-30 mins) then when you reconnect and start driving your computer will go through it's relearning mode. Check your vac lines & make sure some has not push loose a line. I would tend to think your gasoline is the cause but you can also try cleaning your MAF sensor. All else fails, dealership & wait...
Finally if the conditions for rough idle can be duplicated (such as it might do it when coming off the freeway and stopping at a red light), then you could try doing a datalog of various parameters and see if you spot anything abnormal. Take the logs put them into Excel, graph, look at the lines ...
I have the same problem. It started in Aug 2017 with it happening twice. By Christmas it was every other day. It only happens when I do errands with many stop and go's. At a traffic light/stop sign the idle will drop and truck will stall. It is in the dealer for the fourth time and they believe they finally found the problem. Parts should be in Tuesday 1/23/18 and I will report the outcome. There are others with this issue on the F150Forum.com.
I had the same problem for months. It would stall in traffic sometimes. It turned out to be the mass airflow sensor (MAS). It was $126 and took 2 minutes to replace thanks to youtube.
You could have something failing (such as a dirty or faulty MAF, coil pack, etc), but it also could just be a gummy injector. I'd run some Techron or 44K through it first. Not some cheap Gumout crap, but Techron or BG 44k. If that doesn't work, you could try replacing spark plugs, before digging into it more, and/or handing it over to the dealership.
That list has grown hugely in the last 4 or 5 years, seems like most of the national brands are now Top Tier. It certainly wasn't like that a few years ago.

So...update I guess. I had it into the dealer and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. They thought maybe the purge valve, but no joy. Also, the idea of a MAF sensor was thrown around by the service writer, but my engine is one that has gone to the MAP sensor, so that is a non player too.
So, I wait until it does it again and try to get it back in to the dealer. It seems to be happening more often now, so we'll see I guess.
I had the same symptoms with my truck, mine would rough idle but never died on me. Mine is quite older than yours and has more miles (2006 F150 XLT 4.6L 94K miles). Mine felt like i was running on 7 cylinders and wouldn't throw a code at first but finally did. Before taking it in i cleaned the throttle body with no results. Mine was failing cylinder 7 after getting AutoZone to plug their machine in. I bought a spark plug to start there and when i pulled up my coil pack, the boot bottom was dripping with coolant. My thermostat's seal had broken and coolant was leaking out and falling in the spark plug well which was shorting out the current to the plug and ruined that coil pack. Its an easy assessment to see, just pull up each coil pack and check for fluid in spark plug well. Not saying that's your problem but its a start.

I am having Sam issues and was wondering if your similar issues were resolved and how?
