1999 Ford E-150.
I have questions! Getting 9 miles per gallon around town. I had hoped for better.
Spark plugs recently replaced. An existing vacuum leak was fixed. Everything should be up to par... With the exception of the after cat O² sensor.
I've been told that the failure of that sensor would not affect fuel mileage. It would simply cause a CEL. Is that correct? I've been unable to get the old one out. I have a new one, and it's plugged in and just wired to the exhaust loosely (outside.) I buggered up the old one pretty bad.
Thoughts on removing the catalytic converter completely? Is there an O² sensor simulator available? Would I need one?
Thanks in advance!
My 99 E350 has no down cat o2, I have one on each side up by the manifolds at the precats, no down stream, I had a crack in my intake tubing, check the rubber one that has the angle on it, a leak there is around the MAF, kills MPG, clean your MAF and intake while you are at it, put a bottle of Berryman Chemtool injector cleaner in your gas tank with good quality gas, not that crap at Walmart/Kroger and drive it, get some miles on it to clean it out. A lot of times people have issues, the ethanol content is up in their tank, the pump may say 5-10% but it can be 15% or higher, they don't test it, the higher, the lower the mileage, leads to poor running conditions too, your vehicle was not designed for it unless its flex fuel, even then, they really don't like it.
