Here is the scenario..Door lock button UP..Door shuts and opens..Door lock button DOWN. Door shuts will not open with key. Will NOT open with lifting button..WILL open from inside door handle...Makes no difference if window is up or down..None of the rods are touching any surrounding items. Mechanism is clean and lubricated...Before I spend $80 + on a new latch...are there any thoughts ????. Gary Lewis gave me an idea..no luck..thanks..Jerry..PS...This is the red/silver '84 that I posted pics. of..Bronco bucket seat interior and matching trailer..Search...ozark1..if you would like to see photos..
Sounds similar to what my 85 just did. A new latch mechanism (the big box inside the door) from lmc truck fixed it and it works very well now. It installed well with no fitment problems. I guess the old one had too much wear and play.
Consider door pins and a new striker while you're at it if the door itself is loose or rattles when driving.
Kind of what I figured. New pins and bushings a few miles ago. Everything tight. Truck only has 118K miles. I dread hooking up those rods. Any help ?..
Throw a flashlight inside the door so you can see. Basically pop the rods out of the box (lock mechanism) expect the one going to the inside door handle. Remove the 3 bolts holding the box on, then take last rod out for the inside door handle.
Place the new and old box next to each other on a table. Where one of the rods connects to the box you will notice a clip needs to be transferred to the new box.
Put the nex box in the door, connect the rod for the inside door handle, bolt the box to the door with the new 3 bolts, connect the rest of the rods.
The new box will come with plastic bushings already in place for the rods.
This is all from memory a few days ago but it should be easy. This is with the replacement box from LMC truck.
