I have a 79 f250 I want to put a diesel in and originally thought about a 5.9 Cummins swap. Then I thought alot of people have done that so would a Detroit engine like the 453 work or is it not worth the time and energy to pull off.
I like your idea I wanted to put a 8V71 in my 84 3/4 ton. The 453 is a dang good engine and in my opinion it's most definitely worth it. But that's all up to you and your budget as well as your crafting skills. The more you can do at home the more you will save (obviously). The engine will most definitely work though, it's actually been done before in a bullnose with a 351T, i'll post pictures below.
The 453 weighs approximately 1,110 lbs dry & the 453T weighs approximately 1,300 lbs dry.
Here's a link that has almost any engine you'll need they seem to have a good rep and provide lots of information about the engine's including oil psi and videos. You can also find the 453 engines in tractors for a fair price running and driving. https://www.adelmans.com/
