Detroit Diesel engine swap

I have a '77 F250 SC I am converting the powerplant to a 4-53 two stroke with an allison behind it... the only problem is that I dont have a flexplate to marry the trans and engine. any suggestions? or maybe a different automatic?

Well a lot depends on a lot, and thats what!

But I would not be to sure of the above quoted "dont expect 2 pass anything but a kid on a scooter."

Years back a local So Cal funny car racer used a chev suburb to pull his race car around the west coast. He had replaced the chev oil burner with a 4-53 Detroit mated up to a 9 speed manual tranny, and it was a runner to say the least. Then in '85 he bought a new F350 crew cab dually and a 5th wheel Chaparral trailer that lasted him until he finally upgraded to a diesel tractor/trailer setup. That same guy is still a team owner and racing funny cars, but hasn't drove for years. His current sponsor is K&N Filters, and when self sponsored years back was known as the 'Fireman's Quickie' aka Jim Dunn.

Another racer, out of Denver, had a ol chev w/ a Perkins 6 cyl mated to a 10 speed tranny. Both the So Cal and Denver conversions were slow accelerating, but were 'hell for leather' over the road... Go figure...

a 4 53 is still only good for a generater etc. they have no power and that is that. a 4 71 would at leasthave some torque but would probably stick up through the hood and drag the pavement.

8v72

If you're going to go Detroit go 8v72 twin turbo no hood and 6"lift so the drip pan you will have to put under it wont drag on the ground and you can easley grab the drip pan at stop lights and pour the oil back thto the furnace......oh ya almost forgot you will also need a assistant driver to wash all the oil off the windsheild at the lights while you pour the oil back into the motor......THATS YOUR MISSION SHOULD YOU ACCEPT IT THIS DETROIT WILL SELF DESTRUCT IN 10 SECONDS.........

I drove truck in the 80's two of the 3 I drove had 6V92? I hated them, no power, leaking, noisy, did I say no torque. The other truck had a cat 3406?, I was like going from a Geo to a lincoln, same trucks LN9000 what a difference.

ha ha..a 60 series woud fit in the bed but not under the hood,,,how about my old kta 600 in my 05 n350 dually.i bet it would bee e z 200 mph if we could figure out how to gear it? double od trans with 2.5 rears? then i would have to sit in the middle of the bed or maybe the back seat. and double box the frame to hold up that 3400 nlb monster. what the hell, its only money,,,hehe

However the 8 53t was a hauler ... Had to drive a rig that had one and never went over 60 ... But it would have gone upside down if it could have got traction ... And regularly carried around 2 tonnes ...
