Has anyone tried running their fuel tanks in parallel? I'm thinking of doing that on my 1985 f250 since my fuel system needs an overhaul anyways. It'd let me fix the current issues while reducing costs since I'm on a tight budget. I just want to make sure I'm not gonna run into new problems with this or do something wrong.
current issues fuel issues: tank selector switch and/or valve stopped working, wire plug to selector valve broke during troubleshooting, rear sending unit doesn't work, front sending unit kinda works, replacing mechanical fuel pump with electric because it struggles to keep up, fuel lines were pieced together by a former owner in a way that there are old lines mixed with new lines and lines that seem to be connected but vent to the engine bay, rear tank slowly drains into the front tank anyways.
When I replace the fuel pump, I'm thinking I might run either a dual pump or a backup pump I can manually turn on in case the main pump fails, but still looking into that.
How does a parallel system work when one tank runs dry before the other one? After that all you will get is air, no fuel, even if the other tank still has fuel. The only way to run a system like that is to install a fuel pickup in the bottom of both tanks.
