I've got a 92 F350 I purchased at an auction and apparently someone replaced the old tired diesel engine with a 400M and an FMX transmission. I'm thinking it's probably a low to mid 70's motor based on some of the components. For instance I have a mechanical fuel pump. My issue is this:
I put a brand new fuel pump on it. Blew out all the lines to the tank and can take a hose and put it in a gas can and the engine runs great. Now, if I hook up the lines to the dual tank switch then I get no fuel to the carb. I've blown out all the lines BOTH WAYS and checked everything I can think of so I'm not sure what's up.
I was thinking of running a direct fuel hose from the front tank to the fuel pump bypassing the selector switch but which side should I put it on since the assembly (sender) has a return? Or should I plug the return up.
I just can't figure out how I'm not getting any fuel when I have no clogs. Do I need to switch to an electric pump instead?
Have you got fuel in both tanks? Maybe your tank selector valve is inop. Make sure you are using the larger diameter ports on the tanks and on the selector valve. Smaller diameter is for the return side of the system. Just cap those. Are you trying to pull fuel through a non running electric pump inside the tanks? Just throwing out ideas here.
