Hi y'all. I've been searching for info here for awhile and finally am taking the plunge.
I recently purchased a 66 F-100. 5000GVW, Custom Cab, long box, 4 speed, 352, not running, possible blown head gasket. Beautiful body, perfect frame.
The engine is not original, seems to be a 67 from the casting number. There are two different heads and the intake comes up as from 58-59!
I have a shot at getting a 63 for a parts truck. I need bits and pieces for inside the cab, steering wheel, ash tray etc., but what I really wonder about is the sweet complete 292 under the hood. I guess the motor mounts are different, and the exhaust is different, but will this bolt up to my four speed?
The 352 is a much more modern motor, I would stick with that. Not knocking the 292, I had one and it was a great motor, but would not trade my 352 for one.
The 4-speed will probably bolt to the 292 bellhousing.
Stick with the FE family for parts available and cost... Having recently rebuilt a 292, I can definitely say a 352/360/390 is a lot easier to get parts for and are cheaper. Not to mention they simply make more power.
