Speedometer Gear Seal

Isn't it funny how sometime the things you think will be the easiest to solve turn out to be the hardest? I have this type of speedometer adapter in my C6 and it's leaking pretty badly. I've pulled it out and put a new o-ring on the adapter itself but I'm not sure what, if anything, is supposed to seal between the driven gear shaft and the cable adapter. Right now there isn't anything in there and there is barely any room to put anything so I'm not sure if there is supposed to be a seal in there but based on how much it is leaking, I'm thinking there should be. I've called several transmission shops and searched all over the Internet but I cannot find anything to show or tell me what should be in there or where to get the seal. Does anyone know what should be in there and/or have a source for me to get one?

I called several transmission shops and parts stores but no one was able to definitively help me. I finally pulled the adapter and put a small o-ring at the base of the speedometer gear. There really isn't a place for one but there is a relief in the gear like maybe it should have a Teflon seal or something like that. For now I put it back together with the o-ring and it seems to have sealed it up for now. I'm not sure the o-ring will last in this case but we'll see.

I have the same problem. Did you ever find a good fix?

You realize you replied to your own post.
I have no idea about the speedo seal, but you have the wrong "U" joint on the driveshaft. You need one that is referred to as a big and little 1310/1330. Most parts stores will give you the wrong U joint if you aren't paying attention. Read the description you will see the dimensions are different. I just looked under my truck and my cable has clearance to make the turn and plug in. This is under my 70 f250 and has the same attachment as yours. I pulled the cable out and a little tranny fluid came out but I didnt unscrew it. Wasnt sure how much would come out. If I pull it out, mine will probably start leaking too. I was trying to find some diagrams to see if they showed it but none yet.
