Hi. Lost my original FTE account info (hadn't been on in a few years), but I'm back again. I just inherited my grandfather's 1973 F100 XLT Explorer, 390, A/T. It is all stock best I can tell and in great shape and runs really well other than being hard to start after engine is warmed up. Usually have to push pedal to the floor while cranking.
While replacing the fuel filter that connects directly to carb, the filter stripped right off and left the threaded piece in the carb. I could not get it out; even tried an EZ out.
Anyway, decided to replace carb. After pulling it off, I noticed that the aluminum carb spacer/EGR plate was burned up/melted a bit as seems to be common.
The EGR valve did not have a vacuum line connected to it.
If I completely remove/delete, the EGR and install a carb spacer without the EGR hole, what other adjustments will need to be made?
I came across threads that mention possibly replacing jets and recurving the distributor, but they didn't mention specifics...like what size jets, what to set distributor to.
Any help is appreciated.
