Hi guys,
Im stuck with my project and need to get this chassis decoded if possible...
These are the chassis numbers I've found, not sure if they are part numbers or have meanings. I do have photos if required... there was no cab or cab numbers as rust was beyond repair.
Not sure which are important
LHS top of chassis - BHB 14716
LHS outside of chassis - 62-3980339218
(second line) 491980 1 C2 E
LHS inside of chassis- 62-2778330227
(second line) 491778 9 C2 J
Look on the RH side top of the rail near the front axle. The VIN is usually stamped in that area, sometimes as far back as under the passenger side of the cab.
As to the numbers above, maybe someone will have an idea.
Hi mate, thanks for your messages, I dont think shes Australian as its left hand drive and speedo was in miles too... I double checked on the right hand side... its morning here and am sober, definitely no numbers there!
I was told its year is 1980, however the newest id tag was on the transfer case, 1984, front diff is 1983, oldest ID tag was on the rear,1978... there was a SDU number 20 20015568, I do not know what that is.
Thanks again.
US trucks would have that VIN stamped on the RH side, top of the rail, possibly stamped a couple times about even with the axle to back as far as under the seat.
Wire brush etc might bring it up.
I know you looked but you may have to look again, and look for evidence of "removal".
Ok so have took a few photos and also removed some paint of a sketch area... and found what appears to be welded and ground down over the numbers on the RHS... they appear to be same as the LHS and identical location but just on the RHS. as for on the top of the chassis, there wasnt anything there. Also there was a numbers painted under the chassis. RHS sanded the old paint runs Same position LHS
Looks like all those numbers are on the vertical part of the frame. The VIN is on the top of the horizontal part. Looks like some of that is covered up.
Ill have another look tomorrow morning at the front cross members... I didn't think it would be on that, but makes sense.
And also, Thanks for those links. I do appreciate your time posting that. Thank you.
I checked again for more numbers... The chassis rails here are dead straight, every cross member is bolted on, therefore it would be easy to swap out if one inclined to do something illegal. The crossmembers do have numbers, but looked more like part numbers.
Anyway ill try again to see if the our goverment is bothered finding their copy of the import papers as it did get here somehow! ...or may just need to use it for parts for a next project.
