It looks to be a conversion to 4x4? The front frame "Z" rail isn't OEM afaik, and looks to have replaced some of the OEM frame?

Looks to be a challenge. Good luck with the paper chase part of it--that may be the answer!

That front Z rail was to hold the PTO winch...an option. Also I read somewhere on the internet that the 4x4s were sent off by Ford to get built, so ford didnt build these as a 4x4 in those days (apparently)... probably why theres different after market parts on different trucks.

See post 6 about "factory" 4x4 trucks of this size. There is also a link to the model numbers which will give you an idea of how many types of 4x4 there were.

It could also be a conversion.
