So I am getting ready to change spark plugs on my truck. Currently at 114,000 miles. Those that have done this do you go ahead and replace those lower spark plug wires or just leave them be?
I am assuming new “pills” are the plugs. I have new Motorcraft plugs ready to go in. All 8 wires are about $110 and that’s oem parts.
The pills are in the replacement boots for the top plugs and come with the set. Go to Rockauto and buy the Standard Motor Products boots and wires for about half the price. Buy the plugs there too since you're already there. Standard are good products I've been running on my stuff for years.
New wires, new upper boots and springs, and in the upper boots their is a little resister pill that looks like a small fuse. These do go bad and should be replaced when you do plugs. Most auto parts stores offer a full plug wire kit that comes with everything you need.
Well I ordered new boots with the springs and “pills” and ordered new Motorcraft wires. I tried to find after market wires but everything just didnt seem right so I just paid the extra $40 for OEM. Hopefully they come in before the next camping trip.
Well did the plugs today. Everything went quite smooth that is until one of the “pills” where stuck in the ignition coil and broke inside. So I will have to purchase a new coil. Was hoping to find an oem in stock but no luck. Will have to through a duralast in there for now and hope for the best I guess. All the oem ones are a couple days out.
