Today I was picking up my new truck and tried to get the diesel tech to activate the exhaust filter screen. He couldn’t figure it out. The instructions I have are for a 17 or 18. He said that there is a new system starting around 2020 and couldn’t use what I have. Does anyone have any information tha I can provide him with?

I’ll eventually get around to Forscan, I was just hoping to get this one thing done by the dealer. It drives me crazy that they can’t do something so simple.

They can do it. Likely the person just didn't know how and wasn't motivated to figure it out.
The dealer doesn't want to modify the system in the truck. No dealer wants to do that. I believe Ford told them they aren't supposed to modify anything. Some may have gotten there dealer to do it but most won't

The tech tried for a while, but couldn’t find it in the menu. I had the dealership activate the screen on my 2016. They were happy to do it, I just had to show them how.
It seems like the more advanced things get, the less the techs can possibly know. They type in an issue and Ford tells them where to start and if that doesn't work, where to go next etc. until one of their canned solutions solves the issue. Since adding the DPF screen isn't technically an "issue" there is nothing for the tech to look up so it's on them to find it without Ford pointing the way.
I have a 21' and was able to activate it through Forscan. If you go to the 2017 Superduty page there is a sticky at the top that has the spreadsheet for the 20+ trucks.
I am a second-year student in a heavy-duty diesel program. My college has General, John Deere, Case-IH, Cat, and Komatsu programs. I have learned a lot but the biggest gripe I have is with lack of knowledge of computers/programming. With how computer-heavy diesels are I figured they would be more knowledgeable with computers, programming, and understanding updates. I have asked almost every instructor for more education on the computer side and they all respond with: As a mechanic, you don't really need to understand the computer, programming, and the updates; just how to update and follow the diagnostic steps. If something is broken or faulty, replace it.
Instructors are highly knowledgeable on the mechanical side... computers not so much. I think most colleges with mechanic programs are the same. Any knowledge is likely self-taught.
If anyone has good educational resources please link them.
