I have a 1986 2wd RC 8' bed with a 302 and AOD. I wanted to put a deeper transmission pan on it and am finding the transmission cross member is too far forward. Interestingly, it looks like the lower cross member is fully drilled to move back both for the transmission mount as well as where it bolts to the frame to be moved back. However, the mounts that go to the upper frame do not have any other holes and would not line up. Are there other mounts I could be hunting for that would allow me to move the cross member back as a bolt on? This would be nice to do even without a deeper pan because the bottom two bolts are a pain to get to on the transmission pan in stock configuration.
If you can figure out what transmission used the rearward mounts, they do make upper mounts with more offset to line up. I had to do this when I swapped from a c6 to a zf transmission. But I had the donor there with all the parts. You can't but any of this stuff except at a junkyard.
I always thought if I ran into this again and did not have the proper upper brackets, that I would slide the upper bracket back to line up on the bottom and then mark whichever hole would line up on the frame to the bracket, take the bracket off and drill a another hole in it. It might have only one hole that would be usable, but that would be better than no bracket at all. Drilling new holes in the upper part of the frame would be very difficult I would think.
Reuse the same brackets and Redrill the top holes in the frame.
That's what I had to do when I added the Advance Adaoter over drive as the transmission moved back 7.5 inches.
You only have 4 holes i had 8 holes.

How did you drill the holes? 7.5 inches may mean you were beyond the cab and had the bed off? Drilling the holes from underneath sounds like a challenge to me. Possibly a 90 degree drill and a short bit?

Truck was all together as I was driving it with a bad T18 trans and when I swapped in the NP435 I also added the AA over drive and that pushed the cross member back.
The bottom 4 holes were not bad as they could be done from the bottom.
The upper ones after marking I used a 1/8" short bit in a 90* drill motor.
Then I think I used one of them uni bits that are pretty short also in the same drill motor.
The hardest part I had was how to get the upper bolts out of the frame as they drop down from the top and they hit the cab floor.
I had to use a crow bar to bend the floor up a little to get the bolts out and then ran them up from the bottom IIRC.
