At this point in time, an EV Lighting isn't for everybody for some of the reasons already stated. It is a viable alternative for a lot of truck owners. I bought a shortbed super cab in 2018 because a 6 1/2' bed will do what I need. I can haul 8-10' lumber easily, longer if needed. The Lightning will do what a lot of truck owners need out of it. I agree the cost is too high, that should change as time goes. Charging for everyday use is probably no big deal, plug it in at night (30 amp 220volt circuit for level2). Road trip would be another story, Fast Lane Truck on Youtube has an interesting series road tripping the Lightning. It's not for me yet, price, road trip charging and the range drop when towing are issues that are cause for pause. I read a story the other day about a family that bought a used 2014 Focus EV with 60,000 miles on it. The battery went bad and it was $14,000 for a new battery IF they could get one. A battery isn't available for their Focus. There are problem to sort out in the EV market for sure.

There are many videos on YouTube from various users with high mileage (over 150k) Tesla models. The videos are very honest with the majority that ive watched being up front about having electric drive motor failures, regenerative braking component, and complete battery replacements out of warranty costing a great deal of money. Im sure with time these EV replacement parts will come down to a comparable price of replacing an engine/transmission in an ICE vehicle. At this point though buying a used EV is not a consideration for anyone on a budget, hence why they are shopping used in the first place.

I believe I read the same article and linked it in a post in another thread. For the sake of sharing knowledge I have placed a link below to the other post.

EV's are here to stay. I'm not a big fan, I like my V8's just because but it is the future in some fashion. As far as the Focus tale, there are horror stories about every make and model of car made. I had a local used car dealer friend constantly asking me about the "weak" trans in my old 95 Taurus. The last time he asked was just before I gave it to my sister with 256,000 miles and the best car I've ever owned.

I remember those transmissions and the problem they had. For what ever reason engineers decided it would be ok to cut throttle valve pressure when the car would go into OD effectively burning up the clutches. Not all of them were affected by this issue and they did come up with a relatively cheap fix for it, I say cheap because it was only a few $$ extra compared to the several hundred it cost to get it rebuilt.

The transmission tech at my dealer loved to see those cars come in on the hook.

the timing of those transmission issues was unfortunate. thats right when the Toyota XV10 Camry came out and people went nuts with those cars’ build quality, especially the bulletproof 4 speed transmission when used with the 5SFE engine, all the way up to the late 90s people were paying thousands over msrp to get an XV20 Camry. The XV10-20 Camrys then overtook the Taurus as segment leader and Taurus never really recovered from thaf.
