My truck's ac quit working this year. Turns out compressor wasn't kicking on. Since it needed a little freon last year, I decided to redo it.
I evacuated my system. After installing 1st 12oz freon, the compressor started kicking on/off. Normal so far. Get 2nd 12oz freon adding, now I'm watching pressure. Low side climbing to 80, drops to 28 when compressor kicks on. High side about 135. This goes on a bit. About end of freon can, Low side climbs to 110 and compressor never kicks back on.
I jumper Low side switch, nothing. Jumper high side switch, nothing.
since I haven't worked on auto AC for many years, i'm not sure where to diagnose next.
I had a similar on my 2003 F250,the AC had been working good then the bearing went out of the compressor, installed new compressor and then the compressor would not run. I had power from the AC switch in the cab, had power to the low side switch but power never made it to the high side switch even though I had power leaving the low side switch. I untapped all the harness and found that the wire left the low side switch and then went to a connector that fed into the fender well.
I ended up doing a little rewiring and just connected a wire directly from the low pressure switch to the high pressure switch and bypassed the part where it went into the fender well. It has been this was all summer and is working great. I do not know what I bypassed. Possibly a body control module?
Seems the compressor comes on when it feels like it.
today I start trying to diagnose it. Pulled relay, jumpered 67&68. Still clutch didn't engage.. I plug relay vack in and clutch starts on/off. Once freon level hit 35psi low side,, compressor stayed on and I was able to finish charging.. Air blowing cold.
Well.......later I drive to market and just warm air blowing. compressor no engaged again.
