The air conditioning has not worked on my 91 explorer since I bought it 2 years ago. I recently decided to try to figure out why.
When I turn on the AC, the light on the climate controls comes on, but the compressor doesn't start. I've tried checking the voltage of the wires at the compressor and it's miniscule. I'm assuming it should be 12 V. I've also run a jumper straight from the battery positive terminal to the compressor - no response. The AC fuse is fine.
yup its low or completly out of freon, its probally R-12 unless there a lable, then it r134, if r-12 have to retro fit you can buy a kit and its real ez, just make sure when you do it the car is on max ac fan on high, and the amber light is on, the first can will take a little while since the compressor is not going on so gravaty will have to take over, either half of that can or the second the compressor will kick on and suck all the freon out of the can which will go much faster, feel the pipe were the low side is when that cold its charged
