I have a '96 Ranger. I am wanting to upgrade the dash cluster. It came with the Speedo, fuel, temp, alt and oil. I am wanting to install a cluster that also has the tach. I have talked to 3 different Ford Service Centers and they are all telling me they do not THINK the '96 was wired both ways. Can anyone give me any help here. Has anyone else done this change.
The standard answer in previous inquiries was that there was only one wiring harness to fit both instrument clusters. Is 96 an oddball year? Try doing a search here for more info.
Everything I've seen is that they should be plug and play. My question is what can I do about the odometer. My truck only has 37K and every cluster I've found has more. I've head that tampering with the mileage messes up the whole gauge. Is there any way to get it to the same mileage as my current odometer?
Thanks for all the replys. I do know you can get the odometer changed. There are shops that are certified to calibrate your speedometer and I believe they can change the reading also. If you want to take the time, you can open the odometer up and change it your self. I know that use to work on older cars. I had a '68 Firebird I did that to. The other option is to get a certified letter stating you changed the odometer.
