Lightning Instrument Cluster

I have an opportunity to get a '94 Lightning instrument cluster for my '95 F150. I checked my local Ford parts dept, and the instrument cluster P/N is the same for both the 94 and 95. Has anyone ever installed the Lightning cluster in a regular F-150? I want to do this mainly for the speedo. Thanks!

I THINK it doesn't work, otherwise many people would do that swap, but i'm not 100% sure.

Primary rig is Green Thunder:
95' F-150 XLT 4x4, 302, 5 spd, MSD 6A, Flowmaster American Thunder Exhaust, Sunroof, Clear corners w/ Diamond headlights, CD player with 2 10" subs and some 32" BFG Muds .

Check out my Gallery for a look-see.

Then theres:
99' Mustang GT 4.6L
88' F-250 Heavyduty 4x4 351/c6
95' Mercury Cougar 4.6L V-8
80' E-350 300/6 with a
3 spd column shifter. Weighs around 7,000lbs w. 65mph top speed, who wants to race me!

I would also like to know the answer to this question.
Does anyone know if any other parts need to be transplanted so that the speedo will register correctly--like the VSS or the exciter ring???

The excitor ring and VSS are the same, the 120mph comes from the PSOM (programable speedo/odometer module). As far as I know, as I said before, they arn't compatible, otherwise i'm sure i'd of heard of that modification before.

I'm looking into the same swap. I found one with similar mileage. I have to make a phone call to a knowledgable friend and will get back to this string to let you all know what I find out.

The mileage isn't a problem, that can be programmed by the dealer, it's the fact that it don't work.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 04-Sep-02 AT 04:37 AM (EST)]actually, according to the ford racing hotline it should work. the trucks have all the same inputs and the only difference is the variable for the mph(85 verses 120) in the psom or speedometer head.
they did say that you need to have a tach already as a factory option to do the swap and to get the cluster not just the speedo head. you can call them yourself at(586)486-1356 and verify this imformation.
just program in your tire size like your old psom.

Jim

P.S. the dealer does not do the mileage change but sends them out to a speedometer repair shop to have it done.

Well, as I said, I wasn't 100% sure, but pretty sure they dont match. However, you don't NEED to have a factory option tach, as the wiring for the tach is there whether your have one or not, the only difference between a tach vs tachless truck, is the PSOM doesn't have a tach in it, the plug is there.

That's it for mods now, saving for a Stang. Check out my Gallery for a look-see.

Hey Mustang,

How do you like those diamond headlights? Do you think they are worth the 100 bucks or so?

thanks

i love them, whether they are worth the 145 i paid w/ shipping, is something i try not to think about it. If you want to pay 130-140 for them, than sure. They fit great, look great, light is...about the same as stock, so the choice is up to you.
