Hey all, I did a search but didn't see anything that helps me identify my issue.
I have a 2009 super duty, V10. A few weeks ago I started hearing a whooshing sound off and on. Like a fan almost, possible bearings.
Fast forward to this morning. I go to start the truck, it turned over twice and then just started clicking. So I thought, maybe it had a dead battery. I replace the battery after work, but it just won't turn over. The starter gives it a go, but it won't crank, it's almost as if something is bound up preventing the serpentine to move. But without it moving I can't see the issue.
When trying to crank it is just draaaaaags, it will turn over here and there, but nothing sufficient enough to start the motor.
If you suspect that one of the pulleys might be seized, it's not terribly hard to remove the serpentine belt and check by hand the alternator, PS pump, idler pulley and AC pulley. Make sure they aren't bound or seized.
Definitely check the wiring from the battery to the starter. Make sure the positive wire has clean connections. Make sure the grounds are tight and clean as well. Make sure your new battery is fully charged as well. (Should be above 12.3V).
Remove the serpentine belt and see if it starts and runs. If yes, check each pulley to find the seized unit and replace. If it still doesn't start you'll need to do a voltage drop test in order to see what is sucking down the cranking amps.
