went out to go to town and hopped in and tried to crank. held the crank for about 7 seconds and it just wouldnt turn over. after i waited for light of course
i waited a minute and tried to start again... can hear the starter clicking, but no crank. the lights on the dash come on then go away. the trip odometer also goes out.
could be a dead battery i would think. to bad i have nothing to jump with where i am now.
can i pull the battery out of my 99 f150 gasser and try to turn over? will that hurt anything?
ok i confirmed that it is something to do with my alternator i did not know if they worked like gas engines.
can someone tell me where the fuse is so i can check that? and any other wiring issues i can check before i go ordering an alternator for the darn thing
IDK if it the best to unhook Batterys that may cause voltage spike But what Happened when you unhooked bat Hots??
Might be worth a Bench test of Alt and Bats
i dont have anything, all my tools are 1000 miles away, i am in the process of getting them all to me, until then im screwed. when i unhooked the battery. it started up. then i unhooked battery and it died. tried again and it didnt have the juice to start.
so i can only assume alternator. im going to get the truck to the shop tomorrow and have it all fixed. i dont have time to do it myself as i go back to work for 2 weeks and have to sleep in. so thats the only way i can do it.
i wasent sure if there was fuses or anything i can check just to make sure before i do it.
So here is the update. I got pissed got a jump. Let it idle for 20 minutes maybe, drove it for an hour with a couple stops. Shut it off. Waited 2 minutes and started again. So I'm not thinking alternator... I'm thinking power loss? I don't know how.. Because I have had the truck a week and haven't had this issue.. So what the hell? Seemed like alt worked then. I felt the alternator after 5 minutes. It was HOT like couldn't hold hand on it for more then 4 seconds. Is that normal? What is my issue?????? Ahhh got to drive 200 miles tomorrow and then 2 weeks of 19 hour days. Not in truck, just can't have issues. Working drilling rigs don't have much power source to plug in or time to jump my truck, I'll have the mechanic tell me, just don't know f you have any ideas? My cell charger is always on in my cigg lighter but I don't see that doing it? Didn't do it on any other vehicle I have drove
if i pull the terminals off off my battery while its running, it should keep running right?
unless the alternator is bad. if the alternator is bad it will cut off?
NEVER do that ****... that's old school troubleshooting and will screw your PCM or Alternator or other electrical circuits (FICM probably too?) quicker than you can say goose fraba! You can buy a voltmeter at Harbor Freight for next to nothing. If you want to spend thousands on your truck.... pull the cables again for your batteries while your truck is running... NOT!

i'm only 22, and i'm still illiterate to computers ha ha! just got the iPhone and still trying to figure it out!
hell, when i do my alignments my self i use a string. Tale of the times? i originally grew up in a town of 600 people. no one had much electronics. i guess thats my own complacency that is gonna get me in a twist. i will remember not to do that. when it started the abs light was on for about 3 minutes, then went off. and stayed off. i guess thats the brakes recalibrating or whatever the new stuff does? this is the newest truck i have ever owned. may sound bad but my first car was a 64 ford Galaxie 500 XL, my first truck was a 79( I Believe) international drw. never been over 2000. next time i suppose i need to use a voltmeter? is the alt supposed to get really hot?
