Can anyone tell me if it is possible to relocate the NSS from the steering column on a '73 F100 to the C6 transmission? I purchased an aftermarket steering column and it doesn't have the appropriate hardware to utilize the column NSS. Thanks for your help!
My 70 used the column mounted switch but the switch was bad and the arm from the column to the switch was missing. Making it worse, the column was messed up so I couldn't put a new arm on it. My truck has a newer C6 so I bought a switch for a mid 80s Bronco and van that had a long pigtail on it that would reach all the way under the dash (Standard # NS26). I cut the connection off the column switch, spliced it to the trans switch, plugged it up and done! From what I recall, the wiring colors were mostly the same.
.....assuming that your transmission has the bosses drilled and tapped, and the groove in the shifter arm for mounting the NSS. If the truck was equipped with the NSS on the column and not the trans, it may require modification. I installed a '74 C6 into my 66 truck. The bosses on the transmission were there but not drilled and tapped. I had to do so, as well as grind a groove on the shifter arm. In addition, I had to fabricate a backing plate to mount the NSS to the transmission for the right spacing and adjustment for the switch. It took a bit of engineering, but it got done. A quick look at your C6 will tell you if it is set up for the NSS....
